A&K Pearls of Wisdom - Swimming with Whale Sharks
The Whale Shark is the largest member of the shark family, the largest fish in the world, and - surprisingly - a harmless plankton eater! Reported to reach 18 metres in length, the Whale Shark is easily identified by its pattern of white spots. Thought to mainly inhabit temperate and tropical seas, it is rarely seen in shallow coastal water, but is a daily visitor to the Ningaloo Reef between late March and July. Up to 12 Whale Sharks have been spotted feeding close to the reef (Whale Shark tours operate March - July). Manta Rays with wingspans several metres wide, as well as a variety of tropical fish and turtles, can be seen year round.
Sal Salis
Hidden in the Dunes discover Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef with just nine spacious wilderness tents just metres from the water's edge and the world's greatest fringing coastal coral reef. Sal Salis accommodation and hosting exudes wilderness style and Sal Salis guides deliver an extraordinary insight to one of Australia's best kept natural secrets - Ningaloo Reef. Sal Salis's ecological principles also ensure that your stay generates a minimal environmental footprint.
In keeping with the eco philosophy, the focus at Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef is the wilderness around you and its marine and land inhabitants. Accommodation is designed to expose guests to the sights and sounds outside the tent ... a Red Kangaroo grazing amongst the dunes, the beautiful song of a Butcherbird or a Humpback Whale breaching just beyond the reef. However the crucial key comforts are noticeably present: a supremely comfortable bed, 100% cotton linen (500 thread-count), a choice of pillows, soft bath towels, an en suite bathroom, delicious food and great hosting.
