In the forest, there is waterbuck, bushbuck and eland, whilst the neighbouring swamp is the main haunt of Ngorongoro’s elephant population. Cynthia Moss Elephant Research Facility
During your stay in Amboseli visit the Cynthia Moss Elephant Research Facility. Cynthia Moss fell in love with Africa while traveling there in 1967 and moved a year later to Kenya, where she worked on other elephant projects before setting up her own in 1972. Since then, without formal scientific training, she has learned more about the family structure, life cycle and behavior of elephants than perhaps anyone else in the world. During your visit to Cynthia Moss Elephant Research facility you will meet the researchers trained by Cynthia over the past 30 years. You will hear about the workings of the research facility and many stories about the different ‘individual’ elephants that they have come to know very personally. A real highlight.
& Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge overlooks one of the most spectacular volcanic calderas in the world. Few lodges are truly worthy of travel for the express purpose of staying there alone. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is such a place. Defined by a unique combination of style and setting, the Lodge is carved into the topmost reaches of the crater rim. This haven of artisan crafts, burning fire bowls, samovars, fresh roses and sumptuous gourmet delights is opulent yet intimate, with no more than 12 guests in each separate ‘camp’ and a staff to guest ratio of 3:1. Divided into three separate camps, each has its own sitting and dining areas, with private butlers to provide warm, personal service to each guest. Enjoy this property on the ‘Great East Africa Expedition’ Platinum itinerary.
