Day 03 Design Your Day Cape Town

Today travel further a field, exploring the dramatic coastline and lighthouses. Choose one of the following activities: visit Roman Rock, meet the local lighthouse keeper at the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and walk along the cliffs to the lower Cape Point lighthouse, ending the day with sundowners at Green Point; spend a day in the beautiful Winelands; tantalise the palate with award winning wines, sample olives and olive oil, hand-made chocolates and cheese; or the more active may choose to cycle through the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, learn about the unique fynbos and take in the dramatic ocean views; visit the sleepy fishing town of Kalk Bay, famous for its antique shops and galleries and stroll through the impressive Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens (B).

Day 04 Cape Town

A day at leisure. Perhaps explore the city and stroll along the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront with its shops, restaurants and bars. Or choose from one of the many optional excursions including a half day visit to Robben Island, where South Africa’s former president, Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for almost 20 years. For those in search of salt air, then a half day of sailing in your own private yacht is a must. Or to see the city at grass roots level, take a tour of the townships, learn about life in the Cape Flats and meet the locals (additional cost) (B).

Days 06 – 07 Private Game Reserve

Two full days on safari. An early morning game drive or late afternoon drive will take you up close to elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo and possibly the elusive leopard. Guided walks are also an option as your safari guide shows you the little things that sometimes go unnoticed from a vehicle, and you may even encounter wildlife along the way! A night safari showcases the nocturnal species, hidden by day, such as the loveable bushbaby! It is also when carnivores go on the prowl in search of a meal (B,L,D).
Private Game Reserve (Choice of category)

Day 08 Private Game Reserve – Johannesburg

A final game drive before the safari finishes and a flight back to Johannesburg (B).

Optional Extensions

As well as exploring the accommodation options outlined in this itinerary you can combine your journey with A&K’s fantastic Africa extensions below. We suggest a Rovos Rail & Victoria Falls Extension or a Beach Extension in Mozambique.

A&K Pearls of Wisdom

Lunar Rainbow above the Falls

Visit Victoria Falls during a full moon and see the lunar rainbow, or moonbow. At night the lunar rainbow is created by the light of a full moon and water particles from the mist of a waterfall. To look on the delicate lunar rainbow is a natural wonder without equal. The best time to see the lunar rainbow is when the moon is full, the sky is relatively clear and the Victoria Falls are at their peak flow. (January to May)
