Day 1 Arrive Johannesburg

An A&K greeting on arrival into the safari gateway of Southern Africa, and assistance to your airport hotel.
InterContinental Johannesburg O.R. Tambo (Standard Room)

Day 2 Johannesburg – Lusaka – South Luangwa National Park

This morning, return independently to the international terminal for your flight* north to Lusaka, Zambia. A connecting light aircraft flight takes you further north to Mfuwe and the spectacular South Luangwa National Park. The next part of your adventure begins with an afternoon game drive (B,L,D).
Sanctuary Puku Ridge Tented Camp (Safari Tent)

Days 3 – 4 South Luangwa

You now have two days to explore the South Luangwa. Rise before dawn for a morning game drive: your safari guide will introduce you to this superb park and deliver some exciting photographic opportunities. Elephant, lion, wild dog, buffalo and a wide variety of antelope reside in this area, as does the regal leopard. Keep a lookout for the South Luangwa’s endemic species, Thornicroft’s giraffe and Cookson’s wildebeest, and drive along the Luangwa River to see the vibrant carmine bee-eaters nesting in the riverbank walls; take an afternoon safari drive with sundowners, and a thrilling night drive; or, as the South Luangwa is ‘home’ of the walking safari, head out on foot with your armed guide to see the bush from a different perspective (B,L,D).
Sanctuary Puku Ridge Tented Camp (Safari Tent)

Day 5 South Luangwa – Lusaka – Mana Pools National Park

A light aircraft flight takes you from Mfuwe via Lusaka to Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe. On the middle reaches of the Zambezi River, a hundred kilometres below Lake Kariba is the Mana Pools National Park situated in the heart of the Zambezi Valley. Ringed by the far distant blue hills of the escarpment, this area is bursting with a profusion of birds and animals, especially during dry season from June to October, and it is Zimbabwe’s second world heritage site (B,L,D).
Ruckomechi Camp (Tented Unit)

Day 6 - 7 Mana Pools National Park

Ruckomechi Camp lies on the banks of the Zambezi, shaded by a large grove of acacia and mahogany trees and with a superb view of the mountains of Africa's Great Rift Valley across the river in Zambia. Two full days at the camp to discover the fascinating surrounds. The area is renowned for large numbers of elephant, buffalo, hippo and eland, especially in the winter when they concentrate along the river. Predators such as lion, leopard and wild dog are also found. Birdlife is superb, particularly for both mopane woodland and riverine species, with numerous local species like Collared Palm-Thrush, Racket-tailed Roller, Purple-banded Sunbird and Black-throated Wattle-Eyes. Activities include wildlife viewing in open 4WD vehicles on motorised pontoon boats, on foot and in canoes (B,L,D).

Ruckomechi Camp

On the middle reaches of the Zambezi River, a hundred kilometres below Lake Kariba is the Mana Pools National Park situated in the heart of the Zambezi Valley. Ruckomechi Camp lies on the banks of the Zambezi, shaded by a large grove of acacia and mahogany trees and with a superb view of the mountains of Africa's Great Rift Valley across the river in Zambia.

Ruckomechi Camp accommodates guests in ten spacious en-suite tented units, including a honeymoon suite, all of which overlook the Zambezi River. Each tent has both indoor and outdoor showers, and the camp boasts a favourite amongst guests: its outdoor 'bath-with-a-view' in a secluded, scenic spot.

The area is renowned for large numbers of elephant, buffalo, hippo and eland, especially in the winter when they concentrate along the river. Predators such as lion, leopard and wild dog are all found in the area.
