Day 1 Arrive Buenos Aires
An A&K welcome on arrival into the Argentine capital and private transfer to the hotel. This afternoon join fellow travellers for an orientation tour of the city and evening welcome cocktails with the group.
Caesar Park Hotel Buenos Aires
Day 2 Buenos Aires - Ushuaia
This morning a group transfer to the airport for the charter *flight to Ushuaia. A traditional Patagonian BBQ lunch is included with free time before boarding ‘Le Boreal’ for your first night on board (B,L,D).
MV Le Boreal
Day 3 At Sea
The journey to the Falkland Islands is an exciting one, as you join the Captain on the bridge or spot wildlife from the deck - these krill-rich waters are a particular favourite with marine mammals and seabirds (B,L,D).
MV Le Boreal
Day 4 The Falkland Islands
The West Falklands and surrounding islands are scantly inhabited by people and remain mostly unspoiled. Depending on local conditions, and the discretion of your Captain and Expedition Leader, landings may include the opportunity to see New Island or Carcass Island. Spend time leisurely hiking to penguin rookeries and other unspoiled wildlife habitats (B,L,D).
MV Le Boreal
Days 5-6 Cruising the South Atlantic
Sail southward toward South Georgia as the lecturers begin their informal series of talks on the history of the wildlife of South Georgia Island (B,L,D).
MV Le Boreal
Days 7-9 South Georgia
South Georgia is actually a largely-submerged continuation of the Andes mountain range. Days here are spent exploring the island’s many glacier-carved coves and its historic sites, including Grytviken, a former whaling station and site of Shackleton’s grave. As always, weather shapes the explorations, but it is hoped to visit Salisbury Plain, situated between two glaciers, where a vast colony of stately king penguins stretches as far as the eye can see. A neighbouring island is home to nesting wandering albatross, with fur and elephant seals slumbering on the beach and in high tussock grass (B,L,D).
MV Le Boreal
Days 10-11 At Sea
Continuing further south toward Antarctica, the lecturers resume their informal and enlightening discussions on the fauna, birds and history of the exploration of Antarctica (B,L,D).
MV Le Boreal
Days 12-15 Antarctica
As the Antarctic Peninsula and its offshore islands appear on the horizon, a sense of excitement and expectation begins to build. A first Zodiac expedition is swiftly followed by others, all carefully planned by the Captain and Expedition Leader to take full advantage of each day’s possibilities. On most days two landings are made, heading out in the swift and versatile Zodiacs, guided by expert drivers and accompanied by lecturers, to explore islands filled with thousands of penguins, to photograph nesting grounds of seabirds, and to cruise breathtakingly beautiful iceberg-strewn passageways. As conditions permit, plan to land on the Peninsula and on a number of islands, which may include the South Shetland Islands and Deception Island. A possibility too of sailing through Paradise Bay and the Lemaire Channel plus visits to a scientific research station, observing the remains of early-century whaling and sealing industries and whale bones on the beach. After each evening’s leisurely dinner, there’s time to stroll on deck and gaze at the seascapes in the lingering light of an austral summer twilight (B,L,D).
MV Le Boreal
Days 16-17 Drake Passage
The return to Ushuaia is a time for recap and reflection, as travellers compare notes with lecturers, and bird- or whalewatch from the deck (B,L,D).
MV Le Boreal
Day 18 Ushuaia – Buenos Aires
After breakfast disembark and head out to explore Tierra del Fuego’s spectacular wilderness before transferring to the airport to board the return charter *flight to Buenos Aires (B).
Due to the nature of expedition cruising, itinerary is subject to change based on weather, sea, ice and wildlife conditions and is at the discretion of Captain and Expedition Leader.

MV 'Le Boreal'
Spacious and passenger-friendly, she strikes just the right balance between on-board amenities and full-fledged wilderness excitement. On other cruises to different destinations, she carries more than 264 passengers. But in Antarctica, A&K limits the complement to just 199 guests. That’s an important difference: fewer passengers means more shore excursions each day, as well as outside cabins for every guest.
