'Clipper Odyssey'13

The MV 'Clipper Odyssey' has a reputation as one of the most comfortable and luxurious small ships in the world with 64 spacious staterooms, all outward facing, private well appointed bathrooms and a convivial, intimate atmosphere onboard. A passenger elevator services all decks and the ship promotes an open bridge policy. By day, travellers enjoy fascinating shore excursions, many by Zodiac, with distinguished onboard experts and by night award-winning cuisine and creature comforts. A&K’s hand-picked lecturer/guides include avian ecologists, marine biologists, oceanographers and historians each skilled at illuminating the many treasures found en route. Also on the ship is a cosy well-stocked library, heated outdoor pool, small gym and on-board masseuse.

'Clipper Odyssey' operates 12 and 14 night expeditions to the Russian Far East and Alaska taking in the remote wilds of Kamchatka, Siberian Russia, the Bering Sea islands and the small ports, coves and fjords along Alaska’s coast and Inside Passage.

Day 01 Arrive Anchorage

Evening arrival into Anchorage and transfer hotel to meet fellow travellers. Welcome cocktail reception. Hotel Captain Cook

Day 02 Anchorage – Nome

Board a charter flight to Nome, famed starting point of the Iditarod Dog Sled Race and one of Alaska’s most remote outposts. Afternoon embarkation on 'Clipper Odyssey' with short historical tour of Nome en route (B,L,D). MV 'Clipper Odyssey'

Day 03 Nome – Gambell Island

Explore St. Lawrence where the distinct Yup’ik culture is a reminder of the cultural transition from East to West across the former land bridge of the Bering Strait. View traditional dances (B,L,D). MV 'Clipper Odyssey'

Day 04 Cruising the Bering Sea

Cross the International Dateline losing one day and clear customs for entry to Russia. Voyage northward through the Bering Sea, spot seabirds and migrating whales from deck (B,L,D). MV 'Clipper Odyssey'

Day 05 Sireniki Village / Imtook Lagoon

Visit the traditional Yup’ik village of Sireniki then explore Imtook Lagoon in search of orca, grey whale, walrus and a significant variety of bird species including Auklets, tufted puffins, Skua’s Fulmars and Kittiwakes (B,L,D). MV 'Clipper Odyssey'

Day 06 Gabrilla Bay / Cape Navarin

Board a Zodiac for a marine wildlife safari. Opportunity to see Steller sea lion, Pacific walrus, ribbon, ringed and spotted seals. Common whale species in this region include bowhead, fin, humpback, gray, Beluga and orca (B,L,D). MV 'Clipper Odyssey'

Days 07-08 Northern Kamchatka / Koryakskiy region

The next two days will be true expedition cruising in the seldom visited Northern Kamchatka region. Planned expedition stops include Natalia, Petra and Dezneva Bays noted for the colonies of walrus and Brown bear fishing grounds. The area is also noted for the small seasonal camps occupied by Koryak and Chukchi fishermen and reindeer herders (B,L,D). MV 'Clipper Odyssey'

Day 09 Mainapilgino River Village

Visit the small Chukchi fishing village of Mainapilgino to meet the local people and snack on caviar and salmon. You may watch a traditional dance performance and visit the homes of some of the villagers (B,L,D). MV 'Clipper Odyssey'

Day 10 Anadyr Bay Region

Participate in a welcome ceremony in Anadyr, followed by a traditional Russian lunch and a visit to the city’s cultural museum (B,L,D). MV 'Clipper Odyssey'

Day 11 Achen Lagoon

Cruise the southern edge of the Chukchi Peninsula venturing into the feeding grounds of the magnificent white and Beluga whales. Achen Lagoon is a saltwater lake which has become a favourite hunting and fishing mecca for coastal villagers (B,L,D). MV 'Clipper Odyssey'

Day 12 Big Diomede / Cape Deshnev, Russia

Visit Big Diomede, the world’s easternmost land mass. Stop in Cape Deshnev, listen to a native Chukchi concert and visit Uelen’s Museum of Ivory Carvings. If conditions permit, cross the Arctic circle at 66 (degree sign) 33’ North, right on the International Dateline, something few have ever experienced (B,L,D). MV 'Clipper Odyssey'

Day 13 Lorino Village / Cape Krigyugun

This morning visit the Chukchi village of Lorino with a traditional greeting by local villagers and dancers clad in colourful fur-trimmed garments. Learn about life on the edge of the Bering Sea, the subsistence hunting of marine mammals and reindeer herding. This afternoon visit Cape Krigyugun for seabird viewing (B,L,D). MV 'Clipper Odyssey'

Day 14 Arakamchechen Archipelago / Yttygran Island

Explore “Whalebone Alley”, a sacred place for whalers, located on Yttygran Island. In the afternoon after clearing customs in Provideniya cruise back across the Bering Sea. Lecturers and naturalists will recap the fascinatuing experiences of this voyage of culture and natural history. Gain the day lost as you cross the International Dateline (B,L,D). Day 15 Depart Nome

Disembark the ship in Nome. Return by charter flight to Anchorage for onward arrangements (B).
