Alexandria 2
Siwa 2

Day 1 Cairo - Alexandria

Leave Cairo and the Nile behind as your guide travels with you for the 3-hour drive northwest to Alexandria, on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast. Arrive in time for lunch, and spend the afternoon viewing the important sites of this cosmopolitan city, including the National Museum, which houses an impressive collection of artefacts from ancient times to the modern era; Abu Abbas Masjid mosque; and a photo stop at the 15th-century Qait Bay Fortress built on the foundations of the Pharos lighthouse (L).
Four Seasons San Stefano (Sea View Room)

Day 2 Alexandria

This morning visit the Roman amphitheatre, the impressive Library of Alexandria, said to be built on the site of the city’s first library, and the catacombs of Kum Shukafa. This afternoon is at leisure, enabling you to explore at your own pace (B,L).
Four Seasons San Stefano (Sea View Room)

Day 3 Alexandria – Siwa Oasis

Continue along the coast to El Alamein, scene of one of the decisive battles of World War II. Explore the Military Museum and war cemeteries and after a relaxing lunch, continue the journey through the Great Sand Sea (the Sahara) to Siwa, Egypt’s westernmost oasis.

Your base is an extraordinary eco-lodge in the midst of rolling dunes with 40 rooms built by local artisans using the traditional desert methods of simple mud brick design. There is no electricity, so guest rooms are softly lit with beeswax candles and the starry desert sky. A swimming pool provides welcome respite during the heat of the day and the desert activities are spectacular (B,L,D).
Adrere Amellal Ecolodge (Desert Room)

Day 4 Siwa Oasis

The local inhabitants of Siwa are a combination of Bedouin and Sudanese. Visit Cleopatra’s baths, the tombs of Gebel el Mawta (the Mountain of the Dead), where you’ll find 2,000-year-old tombs, the remains of the Temple of Jupiter (following in the footsteps of Alexander the Great), the Old City and the local markets (B,L,D).
Adrere Amellal Ecolodge (Desert Room)

Day 5 Alexandria - Cairo

Return by road to Cairo (B,L).

This is an extension and must be booked in conjunction with another Egypt itinerary.
