Day 1 Arrive Cairo
Arrival into the Egyptian capital. Settle into your gracious hotel on the west bank of the Nile.
Four Seasons Cairo at the First Residence (Deluxe Room)
Day 2 Cairo
Your first full day in Cairo includes a visit to the necropolis of Sakkara and the impressive new museum of Imhotep. Continue on to the 4,500-year-old Pyramids of Giza, built for Pharaohs Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus on the Giza Plateau. The Great Pyramid is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still in existence. Just to the east lies the legendary Sphinx, whose human face is thought to represent that of Chephren, acting as the guardian of the Pharaoh's enormous funerary monument. Continue to the Solar Boat Museum to view the 43m re-assembled funerary boat of King Cheops. Found in 1954, it has been hailed as one of the single most important archaeological finds in Egypt since the Tomb of Tutankhamun (B,L).
Four Seasons Cairo at the First Residence (Deluxe Room)
Day 3 Design Your Day Cairo
This morning, walk through 7,000 years of history at the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, including the treasures of Tutankhamun and the Mummy Room. Cairo has much to offer: ancient monuments, glittering mosques, imposing citadels, a labyrinthine bazaar and old Coptic churches. Design your own afternoon with a choice of one of the following activities: a tour on foot through the attractions of Islamic Cairo, and a search for treasure in the colourful aisles of the Khan El Khalili bazaar; or a visit to old Coptic Cairo, including the Coptic Museum (B,L).
Four Seasons Cairo at the First Residence (Deluxe Room)
Day 4 Cairo - Aswan
An early flight south to Upper Egypt and the town of Aswan, which marked the southern boundary of Ancient Egypt. Aswan is certainly one of the most beautiful places in the country, with the town sprawling on the east bank and the desert abutting the west bank of the Nile. There is the option this morning of visiting one of Egypt’s most awe-inspiring sights - the colossal temples of Abu Simbel* beside Lake Nasser. Return to Aswan for an afternoon at leisure (B).
Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Hotel (Palace Premium Room)
Day 5 Aswan
After a relaxing morning, transfer to the Sun Boat IV moored at A&K’s private Aswan dock. Settle in and enjoy lunch before heading out this afternoon to see the highlights of Aswan, including the High Dam and the Philae Temple. Join the Captain this evening for complimentary cocktails and canapés (B,L,D).
Sun Boat IV (Bridge Deck Cabin)
Days 6-7 Nile Cruise
The next two days are spent cruising the Nile, with daily forays on shore in the company of your Egyptologist. See the temple of Kom Ombo on a glorious bend in the Nile, and the Pharaonic temple of Horus, the most completely preserved of its kind, at Edfu. Reaching Luxor there is much to see, including the Valley of the Kings & Queens; Ramses’ Tomb; Hatshepsut’s Temple, a monument to Ancient Egypt’s only female pharaoh; and the temples of Luxor and Karnak. There is also an opportunity to learn the secrets of Egyptian cuisine in a cooking demonstration by your Sun Boat chef (B,L,D).
Sun Boat IV (Bridge Deck Cabin)
Day 8 Luxor
This morning, disembark and transfer to your hotel on Luxor’s corniche. Luxor, the ancient capital of Thebes, is a bustling Upper Egyptian city where the Nile flows between the modern town and the ancient necropolis on the West Bank. In the afternoon, explore the ancient relics of the Luxor Museum (B).
Sofitel Old Winter Palace (Luxury Room)
Day 9 Luxor - Cairo
A flight back to the Egyptian capital, and the afternoon at leisure (B).
