Day 2 Tel Aviv, Caesarea, Akko, Tiberias

Leave Tel Aviv heading north up the coast to Caesarea, ancient capital of the Roman province, where you view the impressive archaeological remains of the Roman and Byzantine city that once dominated the region. It was from Caesarea that Paul set sail for Rome, an event that eventually brought Christianity to the Western World. Continue to the ancient port city of Acre (now Akko), which was the main base for the Crusades. Here you will see the stunning halls and buildings of the Hospitaller and Templar Knights. Held by the Ottoman Turks in the 18th century, the city successfully repelled an attack by Napoleon, who laid siege to the town for two months without breaching its defences. After lunch overlooking the Mediterranean, there will be time to walk through the vibrant market before continuing east to your hotel in Tiberias overlooking the Sea of Galilee (B).

Day 3 Sea of Galilee

This morning, travel to Capernaum where you will discover the ancient synagogue where Jesus taught and the other remains of this once prosperous town on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. It was in this area that many of the events in Jesus' life took place. You will view the Mount of Beatitudes, scene of the famous sermon, and Tabgha, where the miracle of the loaves and fishes is said to have been performed. At the Church of the Primacy, according to Roman Catholic tradition, Peter was affirmed by Jesus as the head of the church. In the afternoon, visit the Golan Heights and Banias Springs, source of the River Jordan, to see the archaeological remains that span pagan, Jewish, Christian, Byzantine and Muslim eras (B).

Day 4 Nazareth, Cana, Bet Shean, Jordan Valley

Today visit Nazareth, the boyhood village of Jesus and now a bustling city. At the Church of the Annunciation you will see visitors from all corners of the world. After visiting the Byzantine Church at Cana, continue to the Decapolis city of Bet Shean. The well-preserved ruins here make it easy to imagine life in this sophisticated Roman city. Continue down the Jordan Valley, stopping at Beit Alpha to view the old Synagogue with its splendid mosaic floor before arriving in Jerusalem (B).

Day 5 Mt of Olives - Old City of Jerusalem

After enjoying a sweeping view from the Mt of Olives, leave for a full day tour of the Old City commencing with the Garden of Gethsemane with its ancient olive trees. Your guide will walk you through the Four Quarters of the city, allowing you to experience the city holy to so many. Follow the Way of the Cross, the route that Jesus took between his condemnation by Pilate and his crucifixion and burial, and traverse the markets of the Christian and Muslim Quarters, with an opportunity to enjoy a magnificent view towards the Dome of the Rock Mosque, the Western Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where the Via Dolorosa ends. Here you can witness the devotion and prayer of believers at the site of the Crucifixion and the Tomb of Christ.

After a lunch break, walk down through the Jewish Quarter via the Cardo and the Burnt House to the Western Wall. Here you may observe worshippers praying towards the Holy of Holies, and performing rituals such as placing written prayers in the cracks in the Wall. You leave the Old City through the Zion Gate to view St. Peter in Gallicantu, which was built over the palace of the High Priest Caiaphas. Your busy day of sightseeing will also include stops at the traditional Tomb of King David and the Upper Room (B).
