In 1883 the Orient-Express embarked on its inaugural journey, and over the years it earned renown as the world’s most glamorous train. Today, the luxurious Venice Simplon-Orient-Express continues the tradition, carrying 188 guests in sophisticated style in the original 1920s carriages with exquisite Lalique glass panels, wood burning stoves and Art Deco marquetry.
The iconic Orient-Express is a unique and relaxing travel experience which allows guests to appreciate the beautiful European countryside in comfort, style and with outstanding personal service.
Accommodation
The private cabins have all been impeccably restored to their former glory. Each one has an original washbasin cabinet with hot and cold water, and at night-time becomes a comfortable bedroom, complete with soft towels and crisp linen. Cabins convert in moments from daytime seating to a luxurious bedroom, all performed by cabin stewards whilst passengers enjoy a gourmet dinner in the restaurant car.
Double Cabins feature a single cabin room, whilst the Cabin Suites feature two inter-connecting cabins. Toilet facilities are available in each carriage, luxuriously appointed and maintained to the highest standards by your stewards who are on call 24/7.
Dining & Bar
Dining on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is unforgettable. All dishes are freshly prepared on the train by skilled French chefs, with the finest supplies taken on board during the train's journey.
Lunch, dinner and brunch are served by waiters in one of the three individually styled Restaurant Cars: Cote d’Azur, Etoile du Nord or L' Oriental. Breakfast and afternoon tea are served to passengers in the comfort of the train's luxury cabins.
Table d'hôte meals are included in the fare, while an à la carte menu and 24-hour compartment service is also available. The Maitre D' comes to each cabin to take lunch and dinner reservations in advance of the meal.
The Bar Car is the heart of the train with its welcoming atmosphere. Transformed and designed by Gerard Gallet from a dining car, the Bar Car is the ideal place for relaxed conversation before or after dinner, and to warm to the skills of the resident pianist.
Dressing for the occasion is all part of the experience and it is said that guests can never be overdressed on board! Many gentlemen choose to wear black tie for dinner with ladies opting for stylish cocktail dresses. At the very least it is recommended that gentlemen wear a jacket and tie for dinner. During the day, smart casual clothing is the norm.
