Day 1 Arrive Ljubljana
A personal welcome to the Slovenian capital. Private transfer to your hotel.

Day 2 Ljubljana - Lake Bled – Ljubljana
Enjoy a walking tour of this baroque city, the work of architect Joze Plecnik. Visit Presern Square, Tromostovje (Three Bridges), Plecnik market and stroll along the banks of the Ljubljanica River. This afternoon, travel through the countryside to Lake Bled, where the emerald green water, picture-postcard church, medieval castle and looming peaks of the alps combine to create an idyllic setting. Board an old-fashioned gondola known as a ‘pletna’ for a private cruise across the lake to the small island where you visit the 15th-century Church of the Assumption. Returning to shore, visit the castle whose viewing platform offers breathtaking views of the mountains, lake and countryside (B).

Day 3 Ljubljana – Zagreb
Cross the border today into Croatia. Your journey takes you via Mokrice and Otocec Castle, a jewel rising from the mists of the Krka River. Make a detour to visit man-made caves used for wine storage, with wine-tasting and a guided tour (B).

Day 4 Zagreb & Croatian Highlands
Begin your day with a panoramic tour of Zagreb, Croatia’s capital, followed by a walking tour of the Upper Town. Visit St Mark’s Church, City Hall, Parliament, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and Josip Jelacic Square. A late morning drive will take you through beautiful landscapes to the Croatian Highlands and the medieval Trakoscan Castle, perched on a hill by the lake (B).

Day 5 Zagreb - Split
Leaving Zagreb this morning you head south towards Split. En route you will stop at the Plitvice National Park where your local guide with show you the highlights of this beautiful region. Continue to Split where you arrive late afternoon. Alternatively you may take a flight to Split which leaves most of the day at leisure at your destination (B).

Day 6 Split - Hvar – Split
Today, a ferry ride along the stunning Dalmatian coast brings you to the beautiful island of Hvar with its picturesque harbour and well-preserved Venetian buildings. Your A&K guide is on hand to point out highlights as you stroll around the historical centre. Linger in a harbour-front café before returning to Split by ferry (B).

Day 7 Split - Dubrovnik
Tour the lively seaport of Split and visit the extraordinary and imposing palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. Built in the 3rd century AD on the shores of the Adriatic, this looming building with its cavernous interior is a unique remnant of the great days of the Empire. Just beside it is the richly-decorated octagonal St Dominus Cathedral, which was originally the Emperor’s mausoleum. Enjoy some free time to wander the attractive streets of the old town with its boutiques. This afternoon, drive south to Dubrovnik, ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’ (B).

Day 8 Design Your Day Dubrovnik
This World Heritage Site is a veritable jewel with myriad highlights. Start your day with a walking tour to the Franciscan and Dominican monasteries with their medieval frescoes, the Rector’s Palace and Dubrovnik Cathedral. After lunch, drive to the picturesque town of Cavtat, a thriving hub for working artists. Wander the cobbled streets and see an eclectic collection of paintings, books and furniture donated by the 19th-century lawyer and cultural activist, Baltazar Bogisic. Then make your way to the 1920s Racic Mausoleum, built by a local sculptor for a family of wealthy ship-owners.
Return to Dubrovnik and choose one of the following activities: an encounter with an artist in their studio, discussing what inspires them and viewing their work; a private recital by a local music professor; or an afternoon tea visit to the home of a local dignitary whose garden has been planted in the traditional style (B).

Day 9 Dubrovnik - Montenegro – Dubrovnik
Travel further south along the coast to the independent state of Montenegro, where you will explore the medieval coastal city of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site surrounded by impressive medieval bulwarks which extend above the town to the fortress of Sveti Ivan. Between 1420 and 1797 Kotor was under the rule of the Republic of Venice, and the Venetian influence on the architecture is strong. Enjoy a walking tour of the town including the Watch Tower (Sat Kula), the 12th-Century Cathedral of St Tripun, the Church of St Luc and the 17th-Century Prince’s Palace.
This afternoon, drive via the Lovcen Mountain (Black Mountain) to Cetinje, former capital of Montenegro and home of Njegoš, Montenegro’s greatest poet and king, whose mausoleum rests above the city on the summit of Mount Lovcen. Visit the National Museum of Montenegro and the Monastery whose fence was made from the barrels of captured enemy rifles in 1450. Return to Dubrovnik early evening (B).
