Day 02 Aurangabad
An excursion today to the richly decorated Buddhist cave temples at Ajanta, cut into the gorge rock face. The temples date from around 200BC and were later abandoned and eventually forgotten as Buddhism declined in the area. They were re-discovered by a British hunting party in 1819 and are now listed as a World Heritage Site. There are a total of 30 caves cut into rock face and many of them feature beautiful paintings depicting daily life and statues of Buddha (B).
