Day 1 Auckland – Rotorua

Fly from Auckland to Rotorua, collect your vehicle and self-drive to your luxury lodge. Set in more than 2,500 acres of private wilderness in New Zealand’s famed thermal region, Treetops is a carefully managed game and wildlife habitat for fly fishermen, sporting enthusiasts and their pampered guests. Day 2 Rotorua

Visit Te Puia and experience Maori culture and geothermal wonders. A guided tour including the history, people and stories of Rotorua. Drive to Rainbow Springs Nature Park to see tree-lined pathways, tranquil rivers and trout. Just a short walk through an underground tunnel is Rainbow Farm where there are also a variety of farm animals. Visit Kiwi Encounter for A&K’s exclusive behind the scenes tour featuring this unique bird. Later visit the Rotorua Museum of Art and History. (B,D).

Day 3 Rotorua

Today is at your leisure at Treetops Lodge and Wilderness Estate. Enjoy one of the many activities at this natural playground including on-site trout fishing, four lakes, over 70 kilometres of hiking trails, mountain bike riding and horse riding.(B,D).

Day 4 Mokoia – Isle of Intrigue

An exclusive A&K excursion to Mokoia Island by floatplane. Feel the living history of the Maori people as your guide shares tales of years gone by. Interact with Maori nobility, followed by a picnic lunch. (B,L,D).

Day 5 Depart Rotorua

Return your vehicle to Rotorua Airport before flying to Auckland for your onward arrangements. (B).

Kiwi Encounter and the National Kiwi Trust

The Kiwi Encounter tour offers an upclose experience of this iconic species. Visit the incubation room, the kitchen where the artificial diet for young kiwis is prepared and the nursery room filled with breeding units. These units house kiwi chicks until they are approximately 400g in weight, the chicks are then moved to outdoor enclosures to grow to 1.2kg. Enter the indoor nocturnal area with no partitions between the kiwi birds and you.

Mokoia Island

Embark on a spiritual journey across the Rotorua lake divide, to the island of Mokoia. Here you will feast on stories of the people who lived here, their triumphs and their tragedies, their loves and their losses. Then you will feast the heart of the ancient kumara fields on delicious damper and modern day foods, infused with New Zealand indigenous herbs and spices, in a meal that will delight and never be repeated!
