DAY 2 Darwin – Arnhem Land

Today take a private charter flight to Mt. Borradaile in the heart of Arnhem Land, the largest Aboriginal reserve in Australia. It is situated on an exclusive lease of 700 square kilometres of pristine wilderness: here you will experience a part of Australia discovered by few. Take a swim in rock pools atop the escarpment (seasonal) and, after lunch, spend the early afternoon in cool rock overhangs near the camp. Later, visit a billabong for a sunset cruise to observe the amazing bird-life and crocodiles. The sunset’s blaze of colour reflecting golden orange on the Mount Borradaile floodplain heralds the return to camp for a shower, dinner and the friendly buzz of conversation. Accommodation at Davidson’s is of a basic nature, but the quality of the experience in this remote destination will be your prime focus (B,L,D).

DAY 3 Arnhem Land

Spend the morning exploring the region with your naturalist guide visiting 55,000-year-old Aboriginal rock art and occupation sites, and gaining an understanding of their cultural and historical significance. Learn about traditional food and medicines during a walk in the bush. This afternoon is free for you to swim in the billabong, perhaps go fishing for the elusive Barramundi, or simply soak up the magnificent country (B,L,D).

DAY 4 Arnhem LandBamurru Plains

Take a guided morning walk with time to swim or fish. After lunch, fly by private charter to Bamurru Plains. Situated just west of Kakadu National Park, Bamurru Plains is an exclusive bush camp bringing luxury and style to a remote and beautiful wilderness region. This is an extraordinary experience on the coastal floodplains of the Mary River delta. Just nine safari-style bungalows are set amongst the savannah bush fringing the floodplains. Each has supremely comfortable double or twin beds, hardwood floors and full ensuite facilities. With no telephones, TVs, CD players or the typical features of a hotel room to distract you, your focus turns to the surrounding environment. Touring at Bamurru is structured for a maximum of 6 guests per guide at any one time. Your guide’s knowledge of the area brings the experience alive. Meals in the lodge building are wholesome and innovative with a hint of native produce in many dishes (B,L,D).

Bamurru Plains

Bamurru Plains is situated on Swim Creek Station, a 75,000-acre property that was established following the subdivision of a large government-run station 24 years ago. The current owners, the Fisher family, now run approximately 4,500 head of buffalo primarily for export to Indonesia, with some domestic distribution. For 180 years buffalo have lived in the wild in the Northern Territory and have been hunted for hides and pet meat. More recently, buffalo are being appropriately farmed and the Northern Territory is producing high quality buff (buffalo meat).
