Day 01 Bangkok – Chiang Rai
An afternoon flight from the Thai capital north to Chiang Rai, an area of lush green rice paddies and colourful hill tribes on the border with Laos and Myanmar. A boat transfer takes you to your remote luxury tented camp (D).

Days 02 – 03 Golden Triangle
Enjoy secluded nights under canvas and all the expected luxuries at this unique riverside camp. During your stay try your hand at the intricacies of elephant mahout training, learning the basic commands to take your elephant on a jungle walk. Also included is a cruise by longboat on the Mekong and the chance to stop at a village to visit a local market or temple. A spa treatment is a welcome addition to your stay, especially after a day on elephant back! (B,L,D).

Day 04 Golden Triangle – Luang Prabang
A 3 hour drive to Chiang Mai with a stop en route at the delightful Mae Fah Luang Museum and its beautifully kept gardens. From Chiang Mai a short flight to Luang Prabang, the former imperial capital of Laos. Time to settle into your hotel before an evening Baci welcome ceremony (B).

Days 05 – 06 Design Your Days Luang Prabang
The pace here is laid back but with much to see plan your own way. Choose two of the following activities: take an invigorating walk up Phousi Hill to the temple at the top for breathtaking views over the Mekong and surrounding area; a day taking in a nearby hilltribe village, the Tat Sae waterfalls and time to meditate in one of the temples with a local monk; combine a private boat trip to the Pak Ou Caves and a local village specialising in the production of Lao rice whisky with temple visits in town; a chance to explore other significant temples, Wat Visoun and Xieng Thong, plus the colourful market and National Museum, housed in the former Royal Palace. Visiting a rural minority school nearby is a highlight; or to vary the programme visit a Khmu minority village, the Kuangsi waterfalls and the tomb of Henri Mouhot, best known for his discovery of Angkor Wat (B,L).

Day 07 Depart Luang Prabang
Farewell to Laos as you head to the airport (B).
