When to Go
Spanning a great distance from north to south weather patterns throughout Asia are varied. In the tropics of south-east Asia there is little seasonal temperature variation (average daily high in the 30’s) with monsoon season May to November. A vast country like China has enormous variations but in general spring (April-May) and autumn (Sept-Oct) are optimum times to visit.

These individuals are multilingual and well travelled, each possessing fascinating insight into the diverse attractions and cultural interactions present throughout the region.
In Beijing, meet Joseph Wang one of A&K’s most well spoken and well presented guides. A well travelled individual, Joseph is particularly fond of the traditional hutong neighbourhoods which are increasingly under threat in the capital. An engaging and attentive nature makes him the perfect travel companion with a skill to match bringing the city to life.

The art of the Japanese Tea ceremony
Slip into character when you don a kimono and obi to participate in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony in Kyoto. You are welcomed into the home of a local tea practitioner and instructed in the art of this age-old ritual whose origins stem from 14th century Zen Buddhism. The extraordinary care and precision taken in the preparation of the Ocha (green tea) reflects the spirituality and peaceful outlook permeating Japanese culture, aptly embodied by this ceremony.

Privileged access
Dine in imperial fashion on beggars chicken, fish head tofu or dongpo port at Huang Fan Er, located at the foot of Wu Mountain in Hangzhou. This is one of the oldest establishments in the city and is famous for its exquisite Hangzhou-style cuisine.
