Day 1 Arrive Yangon
Arrive to a private A&K welcome and the afternoon at leisure to settle into your hotel. This evening visit the dazzling Shwedagon Pagoda, a remarkable structure with a dazzling gold stupa that rises 98m above the city and is visible for miles around. Observe the lively activity as barefoot worshippers gather at the various shrines around the vast compound to worship and make offerings.

Day 2 Yangon – Bagan
A flight north to Bagan one of south-east Asia’s finest sites with close to 3000 ancient temples and shrines dotted across the plain straddling the Ayeyarwady. Transfer to the river where you board luxury river cruiser, Road To Mandalay. After lunch and time to settle in there is a tour of Bagan. Take a pony cart ride around the temples stopping at some of the most important ones. Visit a local village and see a lacquerware demonstration. Enjoy a breathtaking sunset at one of the many temples (B,L,D).

Day 3 Cruising the Ayeyarwady River
An early start to further explore Bagan, with a visit to the golden Shwezigon Pagoda. Time to explore the colourful Nyaung U market and visit Hti-Lo Min-Lo Temple. Alternatively taken your own horse cart or bike and explore the area at your leisure. Returning to the ship, the captain sets sail north for Mandalay. The afternoon is spent enjoying the riverside scenery with cultural activities and a lecture onboard (B,L,D).

Day 4 Mandalay
The morning is spent enjoying the ship’s facilities as you sail onwards. Lunch on board and early afternoon arrival into Mandalay, Burmese capital before the colonial era. A city tour this afternoon includes a walk through the lively marble carving area, a climb up Mandalay Hill to the Kuthodaw Pagoda, a demonstration of gold leaf beating, a tour of the Mahamuni Pagoda and the delightful Shwe Nandaw Kyaung Monastery, the only surviving timber structure from the royal period (B,L,D).

Day 5 Mandalay
Early morning walk into Shwe Kyet Yet village to the monastery for offering of alms to the monks. Continue by traditional ferry north to Mingun, site of a giant bronze bell and the white 7-tiered Shinbyume pagoda. Return to the ship for lunch. This afternoon there is an excursion up Sagaing Hill, a sacred area with over 600 monasteries and nunneries, temples and pagodas. The views from the top are breathtaking. Spend some time in one of the nunneries observing the nuns’ daily comings and goings (B,L,D).

Day 6 Mandalay – Inle Lake
Disembark this morning and transfer to the airport for the *flight south-east to Heho, gateway to Inle Lake. Arrival at the resort is by boat. The shallow waters of Inle Lake stretch for 35 kms, circled by rolling hills and dotted with small fishing villages. The lake itself is home to the Intha people and this afternoon tour the area observing the man-made floating gardens and traditional leg-rowers, the wooden Ngapechaung Monastery famous for its jumping cats and Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda (L,D).

Day 7 Design Your Day Inle Lake
Plan your day to suit. Choose one of the following activities: an early morning start to meet a local family. Accompany them on a market visit sourcing fresh produce for the day’s culinary adventure. Return to their lakeside dwelling where the secrets of Shan style cuisine are revealed. Help prepare and enjoy a family meal in these unique surrounds; or a day of touring including a visit to the Five Day Market and opportunity to see silk weavers and boat builders at work (B,L,D).

Day 8 Inle Lake - Yangon
After breakfast disembark and transfer to the airport for the flight back to Yangon and your hotel (B).

Day 9 Design Your Day Yangon
This colonial city formerly known as Rangoon is yours to explore from the gracious buildings downtown to old mansions in the diplomatic quarter. Choose one of the following half day activities: visit Scott Market, a must for handicrafts, jewellery and antiques as well as the AKP supported Grace Home Orphanage; devote an hour of the day to a brief instruction into the art of meditation by one of the leading practitioners in Myanmar; or meet a local artist at work in their studio (B).

Day 10 Depart Yangon
Before departure today there is the option to join a professional photographer on an early morning photographic tour to capture the vibrant, bustling and colourful city when the light is at its best (not included) (B).
