Your base, MalaMala Main Camp, is an unfenced oasis in the middle of the bushveld. Every aspect of the Main Camp is designed to appreciate and enjoy the view of the surrounding wilds. Pathways wind their way along the perimeter of the camp to reveal individual ochre coloured units tucked into the greenery which flanks the Sand River. Massive trees and rolling green lawns are filled with birdsong, with the occasional antelope or elephant seeking the succulent greenery (B,D).

Two full days on safari. An early morning or late afternoon game drive will take you up close to elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo and possibly the elusive leopard. Guided walks are also an option as your safari guide shows you the little things that sometimes go unnoticed from a vehicle, and you may even encounter wildlife along the way. A night safari showcases the nocturnal species such as the loveable bushbaby. This is also when carnivores go on the prowl in search of a meal (B,L,D).
MalaMala Main Camp (Suites)

Day 8 - Mala Mala Game Reserve - Johannesburg
A final game-drive before the safari finishes, and a flight back to Johannesburg (B).

MalaMala Children's Programme

MalaMala Main Camp accepts children of all ages. On arrival, the ranger looking after the family will assess the age, enthusiasm and independence of the children and in collaboration with the parents and guardians, various activities will be offered.

A MalaMala backpack including an interactive check-list, bird and mammal colouring books, compass & thermometer, lip-ice and water are given to each child between the ages of 4 and 12. A ranger is allocated to each family and will, throughout their stay, offer some of the following activities: tracking various animals from their spoor markings; basic survival skills; warning signs of dangerous animals and first aid for emergency situations in the bush. A bush breakfast allows children to learn how to make fire and to participate in the meal preparation, they can also communicate on the radio (outside of game drive times). Special meals and "ration packs" are prepared for children and in camp there are children's movies, wildlife movies (filmed on MalaMala) and board games to entertain. Babysitters are available in the evenings if required.
