A&K Philanthropy
Peninsula School Feeding Project | Cape Town, South Africa
The goal of the Peninsula School Feeding Project is to reduce short-term hunger and improve attendance in schools in the Western Cape region of South Africa. The project targets the poorest schools, providing children with nutritional meals that, for some, may be the only meal they receive that day. Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy sponsors one meal daily for children enrolled in this valuable programme. Children receive their meal early in the day, which not only reduces their short-term hunger, but also enhances their ability to learn. The Peninsula School Feeding Project recognises the importance of the support of parents in the education of every child, and promotes parental participation at school. To improve health of children and their families, as well as the "food-security" of households, the project also aids communities in establishing vegetable gardens. Visits not available on weekends or school holidays.
