The Amanpuri hotel was the first in Aman’s ultra-luxurious hotel empire. Nearly 30-years on it is still one of the best hotels in Thailand for a private, luxurious escape. Literally and geographically separated from the pack, Amanpuri rests on a rainforest-covered peninsula flanked by a beautiful boulder-embossed Pansea beach on one side, and the seemingly infinite white sands of Bangtao on the other. Despite the wonderfully secluded feel, there are a few small restaurants, bars and boutiques within walking distance of the hotel should you require a change of scene.

Thick stone stairs and elevated walkways lead along a steep jungle-covered hillside to 40 standalone villas. Relax among the contemporary spaces that pays homage to traditional Thai aesthetic – vaulted ceilings, wooden floors, sliding screen doors and bursts of white orchids; all very calming and comfortable, while exuding private luxury.

From the swimming pool, a monolithic stone staircase leads down to the dazzling white sands of Pansea beach, your own private oasis. There is also a comprehensive watersports centre, tennis courts with ex-pro instructors, a dazzling sea view gym and a sensational spa, offering plethora of wellness and active experiences.

Perfectly appointed to ensure you never have to leave your new luxury haven, gastronomes are spoilt for choice with four restaurants, including the Italian Restaurant and the Beach Terrace, which serves fabulously-fresh seafood like grilled tiger prawns with tamarind dip and seared spiced scallops. The Beach Club serves moreish grilled and wood-fired snacks, and there's even a Peruvian Japanese fusion establishment, offering deliciously flavourful fare.
