The Lodge at Wah, Palampur

Palampur’s excellent tea resort, The Lodge at Wah is more than a homestay: it’s a fascinating immersion into the tea industry.

Palampur’s excellent tea resort, The Lodge at Wah is more than a homestay: it’s a fascinating immersion into the tea industry. The lodge is set within the largest working tea estate in the Kangra Valley, the Wah Tea Estate, which was established in 1857 by the British.

Comprising eight en suite rooms across three cottages, The Lodge is made entirely from eco-friendly materials and built using the skills of local craftsmen. The structure is made entirely of mud, while the beautiful slate roofs are inspired by the Gaddi tribal homes. The result is a natural, eco-friendly home that delivers a wholesome experience, far off the beaten path.

Each morning, guests wake to beautiful views of the majestic Dhauladhar range. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are made using only organic, local produce. Many of the vegetables and herbs are grown in the estate’s kitchen garden, with the menu based on what is fresh and in season. Meals are enjoyed in a family-style setting either in the garden or inside the main dining hall. A sunset picnic on the estate can also be organised.

Guests can also attend a complimentary tour of the tea plantation, where you will learn about the local process, picking and varieties – with a tea tasting in the lovely gardens. Other activities include paragliding, treks, jeep safari, and a visit to the artistic Andretta Village.
