The Temple House, Chengdu

With the perfect balance of ancient and modern, The Temple House reflects similar characteristics to that of the spirited city in which it resides.

With the perfect balance of ancient and modern, The Temple House reflects similar characteristics to that of the spirited city in which it resides. Built within a beautifully restored courtyard building, dating back to the Qing dynasty, the house forms an integral part of the recently developed Daci Temple Complex.

Make your way across traditional step stones, through the shady green courtyard to the elegantly designed rooms and residences. Here, sleek lines and neutral tones create a calm sanctuary complete with easy-to-use gadgets, such as Bowers and Wilkins soundbars, Bose speakers, Interactive TVs and Illy espresso machines.

The Teahouse, inspired by a traditional Chinese apothecary, keeps things healthy while Italian restaurant, Tivano, offers an alluring alternative to the fierce Sichuan cuisine. There is also a 1920s themed bar, Temple Café, heated indoor swimming pool, gym and urban day spa.

Why we like it

  • A boutique hotel inspired by the misty Sichuan landscapes and ancient architectural styles
  • Set in a 100 year old courtyard building with traditional step stones and hanging eaves
  • Interiors offer a contemporary twist on traditional Chinese design
  • Step back to the prohibition era at a speakeasy-style bar, Jing
  • Great base to explore the best Chengdu has to offer, from fiery Sichuan cuisine to the world famous panda breeding centre
