Known as the birthplace of voodoo, Benin is steeped with rich and complex history of glorious kingdoms, slavery and colonialism.
With voodoo still wildly practiced in the coastal villages, travellers can witness colourful voodoo ceremonies involving feverish drumming and highly charged dancing by costumed fetish priests.
The south of Benin has several beautiful beaches and lagoons with pile villages, whereas the northern part of the country distinguishes itself by the combination of vast savannas, landscapes and hills with plenty of waterfalls.
