When to Go

The best time to visit Myanmar is between September and February, the dry season. During these months there is little rain and temperatures are distinctly cooler and more pleasant, particularly in northern regions where the higher altitude produces average temperatures of around 21°C.

The highest temperatures occur between March and May before the rainy season. At this time, the daily temperature in Yangon often reaches 40°C while areas around Bagan and Mandalay are a couple of degrees higher.

May or June brings the start of the monsoon, when frequent rains soak parts of the country until October, with the peak occurring from July to September. The south and particularly coastal regions such as Rakhine, Mon and Tanintharyi receive the most rain, while central Burma, including Mandalay and Bagan, is considered a dry zone, with less rain.
