Journey Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Hampi

Arrive at Bellary Airport to a warm A&K welcome. Journey to Hampi, home to the 600-year-old kingdom of Vijayanagara. Before it was conquered during the Battle of Talikota in 1565 and abandoned, Hampi was the second biggest city in the world. Today, it’s a fascinating place filled with stories just waiting to be uncovered. Settle in to your luxury resort. This evening listen to a fascinating talk from an expert on the history and architecture of Hampi which will set the scene for tomorrow’s discovery.

Day 2: Hampi

Step back in time to the 14th century Vijayanagara Empire during your cultural odyssey of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, on the banks of the Tungabhadra, fabulously rich princes built hundreds of temples and palaces. The site is split between two different centres – the Royal and Sacred – each home to an amazing array of structures. After a morning exploring the magnificent ruins, indulge in a picnic lunch on the banks of the River Tungabhadra. Then, continue uncovering the city’s past. See the elephant stables, the stunning Lotus Mahal and the Hazara Rama Temple.

Day 3: Hampi

Bask in the sanctuary of your luxury accommodation or spend the day exploring with a choice of activities (additional charge). Return to the magnificent ruins of Hampi by bike or take a half-day hike through the hills amongst paddy fields and lush green banana farms. Visit the neighbouring villages for a window into the life of the Lambani tribe and share a meal in their home. Alternatively, venture to Aihole and Pattadakal for a day exploring the 7th century temples and exquisite monuments before stepping inside the cave temples of Badami. Or choose to ride like a local along the River Tungabhadra. Take your seat in a bowl-shaped coracle made from strips of bamboo and drink in extraordinary views of the lunar landscape.

Day 4: Depart Hampi
