Journey Itinerary

Day 1: Ifotaka – Manafiafy

This morning transfer by road to Manafiafy, stopping en route to relax and have lunch in Fort Dauphin. Manafiafy, also known as Sainte Luce, is a beautiful white sandy beach on an azure bay protected by forest-clad mountains and fringed with wildlife-rich mangroves. Upon arrival check into your bungalow, one of only six in this boutique establishment. This eco-lodge is built by local craftsmen from natural materials including wood, stone and ravinala thatch. The electricity and hot water are 100% solar-powered and there is a large tree-planting project underway. Settle into your bungalow with its huge picture windows and large terrace with sun-beds, outdoor shower and hammock, and perhaps enjoy an afternoon swim as the sun sets over the bay

Day 2: Manafiafy

Your lodge offers a wide range of wildlife and sporting activities, all of which are included. Consider canoeing in the mangroves; an early-morning boat trip for wetland birding; day and night walks in the rainforest to spot lemur; snorkelling in the bay and nearby cove; and whale-watching from the 15ft observation tower (June to December). A boat trip to the nearby islands for a secluded picnic lunch is a must, and there are always opportunities for walks along long, deserted beaches. Trips to the local village and school, supported by Manafiafy Lodge, are a wonderful way to experience the authentic daily life of this idyllic destination. Optional activities, payable locally at the lodge, include massage treatments, whale-watching trips (15 June to 15 November) and deep-sea fishing trips
