Day 1: Arrive Cancún, Mexico

Arrive into Mexico to a warm A&K welcome and a private transfer to your hotel.

Cancún, a Mexican city on the Yucatán Peninsula bordering the Caribbean Sea, is a tale of two cities, with the Zona Hotelera offering majestic Caribbean beaches and Maya culture and Cancún Centro providing the local flavour. This Yucatán paradise is also the gateway to the ruins of Tulum and Chichén Itza, illuminating the mysteries of the Mayans.

Day 2: Cancún –Chichen Itzá | Mayan Monuments

Meet your travelling companions and Resident Tour Director for a welcome briefing before beginning your exploration of the Yucatán with a visit to the great Maya acropolis at Ek’ Balam. The ruins here provide a window into the Maya history of the area, with elaborate statues and grand architecture for you to discover. 

Continue to Valladolid for lunch and you might choose to partake in a refreshing dip in the nearby cenote (natural sinkhole). 

Explore Valladolid’s central square on a guided city tour before your transfer to the archaeological park of Chichen Itzá, for your overnight stay.

Day 3: Chichen Itzá – Mérida | Flavourful Fare & Local Village Life

An early start this morning with a special visit the ancient monuments of Chichen Itzá as the sun rises. Explore the ancient Mayan city with your Resident Tour Director, adding colour and context to these renowned structures as you discover the wonders ahead of the crowds.

After breakfast, journey to Izamal, once a Maya settlement meaning ‘Place of the God of Medicine’, now a pueblo mágico or magic town. Pause at the famed Franciscan monastery that was built upon the base of a huge Maya pyramid before a hands-on cooking class, preparing Mexican specialities for lunch under the watchful eye of your local chef.

Visit the traditional Maya village of Tixkokob and witness the age-old tradition of hammock weaving before visiting a local bakery for handmade treats. 

Continue to Mérida, the colonial capital of the Yucatán Peninsula and settle into your hotel with an evening at leisure.

Day 4: Uxmal & Loltún | Temples of Uxmal

After breakfast, tour the legendary heritage listed Mayan temples of Uxmal. Considered to be one of the most complex and impressive expressions of Puuc architecture, your expert Resident Tour Director will illuminate the Mayan mysteries of the region.

Following your exploration of this magical site, enjoy a traditional Yucatecan meal at a local Mayan family restaurant, and a tequila tasting where you will learn how it is produced and its history.

Afterwards continue to the caves of Loltún, the largest caves in the Yucatán. The exploration will take you from cathedral-like underground spaces, to dry riverbeds, beautiful glittering stalagmites like frozen fountains, captivating fresco paintings, ending in a majestic collapsed vault. 

Return to Mérida, with the rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 5: Canals of Celestun & Mérida City Tour

Today, visit heritage listed Celestún, navigating the winding canals of this vast mangrove and wetlands complex to gaze in awe at permanent colony of pink flamingos that make their home here.

Enjoy an unforgettable fresh seafood lunch before a historic city tour of Mérida, discovering the colonial architecture, churches, and monuments of this thriving Yucatán city, ending with a short calesa (horse drawn carriage) ride.

In the evening, gather for your farewell dinner at The Museum of Yucatecan Gastronomy (MUGY) a unique restaurant that promotes the country’s cultural and gastronomic richness.

Day 6: Depart Mérida, Mexico

Enjoy some time at leisure, before you say goodbye to Mexico. Transfer to Mérida airport for your included flight to Havana, Cuba.
