Be spellbound by the majestic monuments of Chichen Itzá, be immersed in the secrets of flavourful Mexican fare, and lose yourself in the traditions and enduring architecture of the many small villages and immense constructed wonders you’ll explore on this adventure.


Journey Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Mérida, Mexico

Arrive into Mexico to a warm A&K welcome and a private transfer to your hotel.

Mérida is the colonial centre of the Yucatán Peninsula, considered the cultural capital and boasting a delightful blend of the provincial and cosmopolitan. With some of the region’s best museums, there’s plenty to learn and explore, with its narrow streets hiding some of the most delectable local cuisine.

Day 2: Mérida | Canals of Celestun & Mérida City Tour

After a welcome briefing, visit heritage listed Celestún, navigating the winding canals of this vast mangrove and wetlands complex to gaze in awe at permanent colony of pink flamingos that make their home here.

Enjoy an unforgettable fresh seafood lunch before a historic city tour of Mérida, discovering the colonial architecture, churches, and monuments of this thriving Yucatán city, ending with a short calesa (horse drawn carriage) ride.

In the evening, gather for your farewell dinner at The Museum of Yucatecan Gastronomy (MUGY) a unique restaurant that promotes the country’s cultural and gastronomic richness.

Day 3: Uxmal | Temples of Uxmal

After breakfast, tour the legendary heritage listed Mayan temples of Uxmal. Considered to be one of the most complex and impressive expressions of Puuc architecture, your expert Resident Tour Director will illuminate the Mayan mysteries of the region.

Following your exploration of this magical site, enjoy a traditional Yucatecan meal at a local Mayan family restaurant, and a tequila tasting where you will learn how it is produced and its history.

Afterwards visit two spectacular cenotes, beautiful natural pools of fresh water located in limestone caves. Yucatan Peninsula is famous for its thousands of cenotes, and features the most in Mexico. The first, named “Carlota” in honour of the Carlota the Empress of Mexico who was the first person to bath in it, is half open and features crystalline water to a depth of 7 metre. The second cenote, the “Azul Maya” is located entirely within a cavern. stalactites and a small gap in the top of the cavern that sunlight passes through to illuminate the water with a blue tint, this stunning cenote is considered sacred to the Maya.

Return to Mérida, with the rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 4: Chichen Itzá | Flavourful Fare & Local Village Life

Travel to the traditional Maya village of Tixkokob and visit a local bakery for handmade treats, before journeying to Izamal, once a Maya settlement meaning 'Place of the God of Medicine', now a pueblo mágico or magic town. Pause at the famed Franciscan monastery that was built upon the base of a huge Maya pyramid before a hands-on cooking class, preparing Mexican specialities for lunch under the watchful eye of your local chef.

Continue to the archaeological park of Chichen Itzá, for your overnight stay.

Day 5: Cancún | Mayan Monuments

An early start this morning with a visit to the ancient monuments of Chichen Itzá, your Resident Tour Director adding colour and context to the Mayan city as you explore.

Continue to Valladolid and admire the central square on a guided city tour. After lunch you might choose to partake in a refreshing dip in the nearby cenote (natural sinkhole).

Visit to the great Maya acropolis at Ek' Balam, its ruins providing a window into the Maya history of the area, with elaborate statues and grand architecture for you to discover.

Continue to Cancún a Mexican city on the Yucatán Peninsula bordering the Caribbean Sea, with your evening at leisure.

Day 6: Depart Cancún, Mexico - Arrive Havana, Cuba

Enjoy some time to relax, before you say goodbye to Mexico, transferring to Cancún airport for your included flight to Havana, Cuba.
