Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel

Days 2-4: Cape Town | The Mother City.

The next three days will reveal Cape Town from different angles. For an aerial perspective of the city and its surrounds take the cable car up Table Mountain (weather permitting) and admire the panorama. Back at ground level, get an historic appreciation of the city through its monuments and the fascinating narrative from your guide. Mingle with fellow guests at a welcome dinner at your hotel.

Take one of the world’s great road trips along the Atlantic coast to Cape Point passing beautiful beaches and the bustling fishing haven of Hout Bay. Merge with the famous Chapman’s Peak Drive on to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Climb to the top of Cape Point and keep an eye out for southern right whales in spring and early summer, dolphins and a variety of seabirds. On your way back, seek out the local wildlife including the rare bontebok, eland and Cape mountain zebra and get up close to the adorable, but endangered, jackass penguins at Boulders beach.

Back in Cape Town, join a botanical guide for a wander through the world-renowned Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden, recently voted one of the Top Ten gardens in the World by the curators of Kew Gardens in London.

One full day is devoted to visiting some of the country’s leading vineyards on an exploration of the Cape Winelands. Meander through Stellenbosch, admire the charming Cape Dutch architecture of Franschhoek and Paarl and taste some of the finest wines South Africa has to offer.
