Mar 11: Arrive Zanzibar Islands, Tanzania

Arrive on the main namesake island of Zanzibar in Tanzania and transfer to your luxury hotel near historic Stone Town. This evening, join fellow guests and your A&K Expedition Team for a welcome briefing and dinner at your hotel.

Mar 12: Zanzibar Island | Jewel of the Ocean

Set on the Swahili Coast near mainland Tanzania, Zanzibar boasts stunning flora, fauna and myriad cultures, which you experience on curated shore excursions this morning. Choose an in-depth walking tour of UNESCO-designated Stone Town and explore its bustling spice markets and historic churches, or opt for a more expansive tour that also affords a visit to a rural spice farm. Alternatively, choose a mangrove trek in Jozani Forest Nature Reserve, home to impressive birdlife and the rare red colobus monkey, found only in Zanzibar. Later, board your beautiful expedition ship and luxury floating home for the next 12 nights.

Mar 13: Pemba Island | Idyllic Clove Island

Greet the morning at gorgeously textured Pemba Island, where lush green hills tumble into an aquamarine coast of mangroves, lagoons and beaches. After breakfast, choose from excursions that include a visit to the Kidike Sanctuary to learn about Pemba’s endemic flying fox or a visit to a local spice plantation that produces cloves, cinnamon, vanilla and more. Follow both excursions with an inspiring experience at a local school, where the children share a Swahili lesson and you learn about LifeStraw©, an A&K Philanthropy project bringing clean water to the community. Later, enjoy a refreshment at a spectacular beach before lunch aboard your ship.

Mar 14: Kilwa Kisiwani | Ancient Swahili Ruins

In its heyday, Kilwa Kisiwani was an impressive trading hub for sultans and royalty. Today, it remains reachable only by boat and teems with fascinating ruins. Spend the day exploring this UNESCO-designated treasure alongside an expert local guide who reveals the Malindi Mosque and cemetery, Gereza Fort, Mautani residences and more. Enjoy lunch on your ship as well as enrichment lectures to further your experience of this remarkable settlement, considered the most significant grouping of Swahili buildings on the East African coast.

Mar 15: At Sea | Across the East Indian Ocean

As your expedition small ship sails toward the islands of the Seychelles, enjoy a day of exciting lectures and conversations revealing the discoveries ahead as well as time to relax, enjoy the spa and lounges, and spend time with the new friends you’ve made.

Mar 16–17: Assumption Island & Aldabra Atoll, Seychelles | Paradise on Earth

Arrive this morning in the Seychelles, one of the world’s smallest countries and host to some of its most exquisite and remote islands. After clearance, your discovery of the archipelago begins at Assumption Island, where you enjoy a morning of snorkelling and beach landings amid its turquoise waters. Enjoy lunch on board as your ship sails toward the UNESCO-designated Aldabra Atoll, where you continue the day’s adventures. The largest raised coral atoll in the world, Aldabra features pristine coral reefs, four distinct islands around a large lagoon and unique wildlife, such as the Aldabra Giant Tortoise and flightless Aldabra rail. For the next two days, join your Expedition Team and local Seychellois Rangers in discovering Aldabra’s wonders, exploring its reefs by Zodiacs (sturdy inflatable boats), snorkelling in its lagoon, and beachcombing its white sands. Return to your luxury ship each evening for a recap and briefings, which make for exciting conversations over dinner and on moonlit decks.

Mar 18: Astove Island | Immaculate Ecosystem

Among the Outer Islands of the Seychelles, historic Astove boasts a large inner lagoon teeming with coral fish and the jaw-dropping “Astove Wall,” a dramatic underwater sea cliff. Explore the island after breakfast with guided excursions that include snorkelling, visits to an abandoned copra (coconut flesh) plantation and birding walks, perhaps to spy the endemic souimanga sunbird. The beaches are spectacular and also to be enjoyed during your visit. Return to your luxury ship for lunch, additional enrichment lectures and an afternoon at sea.

Mar 19: Farquhar Atoll | Exploring the Alphonse Islands

Explore Farquhar, the southernmost atoll in the Seychelles and an important nesting site for sea turtles. Embark on Zodiac excursions, snorkel in a lagoon and relish time at the beach. This afternoon, enjoy more lectures on board by your Expedition Team.

Mar 20: St. François Atoll | Birding Paradise of Seychelles

Arrive at St. François, the larger of the Alphonse Group islands. The atoll is home to large migratory bird colonies, including crab plover and Saunder’s tern, and an important foraging habitat for immature green and hawksbill turtles. Keep on the lookout with your Expedition Team during Zodiac excursions and landings at more breathtaking beaches. You also enjoy opportunities to snorkel and spend time at the beach before returning to your ship.

Mar 21: Poivre & Rémire Islands | The Amirantes Islands

First visited by the French in 1770, Poivre was named for Pierre Poivre, the governor of Île de France and Réunion known for bringing spice cultivation to the island. This morning, explore these tiny islands, joining your Expedition Team for Zodiac excursions, tours of its former copra plantation and snorkelling along its shallow shelf reef. This afternoon, visit Rémire Island, where you find neon blue-green waters teeming with luminous fish and yet another gorgeous beach for exploration.

Mar 22: Aride & Curieuse Islands | Protected Wonders

Only a quarter of a square mile in size, tiny Aride Island Nature Reserve boasts incredible granite cliffs and seabird colonies, which you witness on a walk amid its low canopy. Return to your ship for lunch before arriving at Curieuse Marine National Park. Only slightly larger and just over a square mile, the island is home to tropical coral reefs, the world’s only natural forest of coco de mer palm trees and more than 300 Aldabra giant tortoises. Choose to hike through a mangrove forest in search of endemic flora and fauna or participate in the island’s reforestation initiative. Later, snorkel and enjoy technicolour views from Anse St. José Beach.

Mar 23: Praslin & La Digue Islands | The Inner Islands

Your immersion in Seychelles continues today, first at Praslin Island, a palm-fringed treasure chest bursting with tropical forests, vanilla orchids and rare birds, such as the Seychelles black parrot. Choose from guided excursions that include a trek through UNESCO-designated Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve to see its giant coco de mer palms. Enjoy lunch as you sail to the marvellous port town of La Digue. Your Expedition Team leads your discovery in this laid-back paradise with three excursions. Choose a scenic tour of the island via rugged camionette (covered truck); a guided bike tour to breathtaking beaches with swimming at Anse Source D’Argent Beach, one of the most famous in Seychelles; or a leisurely walking tour of the town. Later, return to your luxury ship for dinner.

Mar 24: Depart Mahé, Seychelles

After breakfast, say goodbye to your Expedition Team before disembarking your ship for guided exploration in Victoria. Choose between a visit to a perfume factory that creates fragrances from the coco de mer palm or a visit to Takamaka Rum Distillery. Alternatively, embark on a Seychelles foodie experience or a tour of Victoria city at Sir Selwyn-Clarke Market. In the afternoon, transfer to the airport to board your flight home.
