Journey Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Kilimanjaro – Arusha, Tanzania.

Welcome to Tanzania where you are met on arrival at Kilimanjaro International and transferred

privately transfer to your lodge located on the country’s largest coffee plantation.

Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park.

This morning you are driven (approx. 2hrs) to Tarangire National Park, home to one of the country’s largest elephant populations. On arrival at the park entrance, your full day game drive with picnic lunch begins. Arrive at Sanctuary Swala late in the afternoon.  Your camp is situated in a remote corner of the park amongst giant acacia trees with views out beyond the savannah. The landscape is filled with ancient baobab trees, ambling elephants, and birds in flight.

Day 3: Tarangire National Park.

A full day on safari allows time for plenty of game viewing.  Or tailor your own experience later in the day with a choice of activity: take to the water on Sanctuary Retreats’ newly launched canoe safari on Lake Gursi enabling you to see the animals from a different perspective; head out on a walking safari; or consider a night drive in search of the elusive nocturnal animals often missed by visitors.

Day 4: Tarangire – Ngorongoro Crater.

Today travel to the Ngorongoro Conservation area, stopping for lunch at Gibb’s Farm, a working coffee plantation in the highlands, with time to stretch your legs. Later this afternoon, a guided walk to the rim of the crater reveals magnificent views over this World Heritage Site. This will be followed by a classic East African sundowner whilst watching the sun slip below the far edge of the Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater.

Descend into this vast extinct volcano whose towering walls are a natural enclosure for a dazzling abundance of wildlife. Here you will have the chance to view wildebeest, zebra, buffalo and gazelle on the plains, waterbuck, bushbuck and eland in the forest, a healthy elephant population, black rhino, lion, leopard, hippo and flamingo.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti National Park.

This morning you will fly by light aircraft westwards to the world-famous Serengeti. Game viewing in the park varies depending on the time of year. Your classic tented safari camp is mobile and moves seasonally between two sites according to the movement of the game, ensuring you are always in the best spot to witness the abundant wildlife that this area is renowned for.

Days 7–8: Serengeti National Park.

Enjoy two days exploring the never-ending savannah, where more animals roam than in any other place on earth. The Serengeti plays host to a wonderful spectacle each year — the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra that follow the rains in a search of new pastures and water. It is also home to a plethora of permanent game, including lion, cheetah, leopard, elephant, buffalo, giraffe and well as many different antelope.

Day 9: Serengeti National Park – Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya.

Fly to Tarime where you will be driven across the Kenya border to Migori and a flight into the Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s finest wildlife spectacle, offering excellent game viewing year-round. The unending landscape hosts some 450 bird species, 95 animal species and all of the great predators, including the country’s largest lion population.

Transfer to the luxurious Sanctuary Olonana Camp, an exclusive hideaway set on a private stretch of the Mara River.

Days 10 – 11: Masai Mara National Reserve.

Venture forth for two full days of exploring the open savanna, woodlands and tree-fringed rivers of the Masai Mara, where patience is rewarded with unique sightings such as a leopard retrieving a kill from the upper branches of an acacia, or elephants protecting their young from opportunistic lions. Amid the stunning scenery, watch as Maasai tribesmen traverse the plains or herd goats and cattle. You will also be able to participate in the AKP Tree Planting Project, or the AKP supported Safe Water in School’s initiative.

Day 12: Masai Mara National Reserve – Depart Nairobi.

Return by air to Wilson Airport for onward transfer to Nairobi Airport or your hotel.
