Take a front row seat in your private cabin or in the Observation Car to watch the astonishing landscapes shift and change. Then, step off the train to discover the secrets held within.

Journey Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Singapore

Welcome to Singapore. Drop your bags at the famous Raffles Hotel, an oasis of old-world colonial charm, and spend the day at leisure in this ever-surprising city. Be sure to indulge in the ultimate Singapore experience: sipping a Singapore Sling and cracking peanuts in the legendary Long Bar.

Day 2: Singapore

Enjoy breakfast and a private train check-in at the hotel. Transfer to Singapore station, where the gleaming green carriages of the Eastern & Oriental Express await. Settle into your luxurious cabin and enjoy a welcome reception as the train gathers speed out of the city, over the causeway into Malaysia and into the countryside beyond. Take a seat for your first decadent dinner in one of the opulent dining carriages. Then, move to the Bar Car for a nightcap while listening to the nostalgic melodies performed by the resident pianist.

Day 3: Kuala Lumpur

As the train travels through the lush rainforests and rural west coast towns of Malaysia, enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the comfort of your cabin. Arrive at the Moorish splendour of Kuala Lumpur Station and immerse yourself in Malaysia’s bustling capital through a choice of activities, such as a visit to a famous "wet" market or a tour of heritage museums. Return to the train for lunch as the train climbs gently upwards through plantations. Continue your journey via coach to the Cameron Highlands, the highest point on the Malaysian peninsula. Arrive at the Cameron Highlands Resort, Malaysia's most celebrated hill retreat and your home for the night. Savour dinner and cocktails surrounded by fabulous views.

Day 4: Cameron Highlands

Choose how to explore today. Take a guided walk through the famed Best of Highlands tea plantation and sample a variety of aromatic brews. Or venture into the jungle on the Jim Thompson trail and learn about the flora and fauna from the resident naturalist. Then, take your reservation at Gonbei Restaurant before returning to the Eastern & Oriental Express at Ipoh Station. Relax with an aperitif in the Bar Car before an exquisite dinner.

Day 5: Penang

Arrive at Butterworth Station and transfer to the island of Penang, once capital of British Malaya. Choose to explore colonial George Town and witness a rich blend of Chinese, Malay and Indian cultures, visit the Peranakan Heritage Museum, or venture to the Tropical Spice Garden Gallery to learn about the origins of the spice trade and how spices are used today. Later, meet on the terrace of the charming Eastern & Oriental Hotel for an elegant late morning tea. Back on board, enjoy lunch as you cross into Thailand. Savour a relaxing afternoon basking in the passing landscape from your cabin, the bar or the Observation Car. This evening, more culinary delights await in the Restaurant Car.

Day 6: Koh Chaan

The early morning brings you to the small rural community of Huay Yang on Thailand’s east coast. Join the local songthaew for your ride to the pier of the charming fishing village of Baan Huay Yang and cross to the island of Koh Chaan. Here, spend a morning snorkelling or relaxing on the beach. Continue your adventure with a boat ride to Hat Wanakon Beach for a fresh seafood barbecue lunch. Return to your train in the afternoon ready to journey north towards Bangkok. Join the Train Manager and staff for a farewell cocktail reception before dinner. Afterwards enjoy digestifs in the open-air Observation Car and watch the exquisite scenery drift by. Day 7: Arrive Bangkok

Arrive and disembark in Bangkok’s Hualamphong Station, a grand station built in 1916, ready for your onward journey.
