Journey Itinerary

Days 1-2 Arrive Nairobi, Kenya

Arrive in Nairobi and transfer to your hotel, where your Child Activity Coordinator may greet you with “jambo” (hello). The next day, meet remarkable African species in two special settings. Visit the Giraffe Centre, where you may hand-feed endangered Rothschild’s giraffes from a platform that brings you to eye level with these majestic giants, who gently snatch food with their long blue tongues. At Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage, watch young elephants at play with attentive keepers, who explain the process of reintroducing the elephants into the wild. Later, visit a jewellery workshop created by Kenyan women. Tonight, gather for a special welcome dinner.

Days 3-4 Amboseli National Park | On the Prowl

Depart for Amboseli National Park, famous for its big game and views of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest freestanding mountain in the world. After lunch at your lodge and, perhaps, a lesson in spear throwing with your Child Activity Coordinator, it’s time for a thrilling safari. Cruise through acacia woodlands, freshwater swamps and open plains in search of elephants, zebra and wildebeest. The next day, discover more of this wildlife haven on additional game drives, departing for your first of the day at dawn. Look to distant Kilimanjaro, illuminated in an inspiring, early morning light.

Days 5-6 Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania | Inside The “Lost World”

Drive from Kenya into Tanzania, stopping in Arusha for lunch. Then, fly to Manyara and transfer to your lodge, perched on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and “Lost World” of wildlife, Ngorongoro Crater was formed three million years ago when a giant volcano erupted and collapsed. Today, Ngorongoro is home to an incredible concentration of wildlife, including one of the highest densities of lions. Tonight, take in sweeping views from your own private balcony. The next day, ride into the lush expanse for a picnic lunch and full day of game drives. Later, visit a Maasai village, where you meet with the village elder and learn how to make the tribal community’s unique beaded jewellery.

Days 7-8 Serengeti National Park | The "Big Five"

Depart for Serengeti National Park. Stop for a privately guided visit to Olduvai Gorge, an archaeological site housing some of the earliest human remains. Arrive at your lodge and, time permitting, set out on your first game drive in the unparalleled Serengeti. The next day brings morning and afternoon game drives in search of Africa’s “Big Five” — leopards, buffalo, elephants, rhinos and lions. In lieu of the morning game drive, opt to take your family on a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti (weather permitting and at an additional cost).

Days 9-11 Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya | Rift Valley

Transfer by air and overland to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve. Check in to your luxury camp near the Mara River. Later, enjoy an exciting afternoon game drive. Explore this magnificent savanna country for the next two days on morning and afternoon game drives, searching for giraffes, hippos and hyenas. Look forward to a family-friendly sundowner experience, sipping refreshing mocktails and cocktails from a surprise scenic location. Back at camp, your Child Activity Coordinator leads young guests on bush treasure hunts and teaches the craft of fire making. A Family Foodie Experience offers an opportunity to join your chef and prepare regionally inspired dishes together. Later, experience local life when you opt to visit with students at a nearby primary school (when in session). Seize an opportunity for another unforgettable hot air balloon ride (weather permitting and at an additional cost). On your final evening, celebrate with a farewell dinner.
