Day 2: Saturday, 29th May 2021 – Adelaide

Today, let curator and cultural historian Kenneth Park guide you on a discovery of Adelaide’s captivating galleries and museums. Start with a privileged two-hour guided walk with Robert Reason, the Museum Director of the David Roche Foundation, through Fermoy House, the opulent former residence of philanthropist David Roche, and the Captain Cook & the Art of Memorabilia Exhibition.

Refuel over morning tea and more time to chat with Robert before continuing to the Art Gallery of South Australia. Upon arrival, sit down to a delicious three course lunch in a stunning private gallery space where important art works can be admired, including a piece by renowned landscape artist Clarice Beckett. Later, you are treated to a private tour of the Museum, which includes exclusive access to the most precious works, only accessible by special invitation.

Continue on foot to Ayers House Museum where you step back in time to 19th century South Australia as seen through the eyes of Sir Henry Ayers, the five times Premier who built, furnished and decorated this gracious family home. For decades the house was central to Ayers’ family life and an entertainment destination for Adelaide’s social and political elite. Explore its three levels of Victorian-Era grandeur, with optional hands-on experiences including cooking and creative activities. The evening is yours to enjoy at leisure.

Day 3: Sunday, 30th May 20 – Barossa

Today you embark on a food, wine and art discovery that takes you into the Adelaide Hills and the renowned Barossa Valley. Set out for Hahndorf, Australia’s oldest German settlement, with its picturesque elm tree-lined main street, quaint cottages, inns, and artisanal delights. Stop at Beerenberg Farm Shop en route to taste their famous jams, jellies and sweet sauces before arriving at The Cedars, once home to the renowned landscape painter and early conservationist Sir Hans Heysen, his wife Sallie and family. Tour Heysen’s studio and family home, where some 200 original works of art are on display, and afterwards savour morning tea in the rambling country garden.

Next stop is historic Seppeltsfield, where the five-kilometre avenue of Canary Island date palms makes for an impressive arrival.  Enjoy a private tour of the estate’s expansive wine cellars, followed by a guided tasting and lunch.

Later, transfer to Penfolds where you are welcomed into the winemakers’ laboratory to become a master winemaker for the afternoon.
