Day 3: Sossusvlei | Design Your Day

Today is an adventure into the world famous Sossusvlei dunes which are situated in the largest conservation area in Africa, the Namib-Naukluft National Park. This photogenic region is famous for its large, red sand dunes, which are some of the tallest in the world. At the foot of the dunes look out for the stark skeletons of trees in an area known as Dead Vlei.

Choose your own adventure this afternoon as you Design Your Day:

  • Head out on a Nature Drive
Photographers should keep their camera handy in Kulala Wilderness Reserve for species such as ostrich, springbok, gemsbok, spotted hyena and the occasional brown hyena. Smaller creatures such as bat-eared fox, black-backed jackal, porcupine, Cape fox and aardwolf can also be seen. Enjoy a coffee or sundowner stop in scenic parts of the reserve.
  • Discover Ancient Sesriem
Head out to explore the ancient wonders of Sesriem. This fascinating geographical formation is the result of water carving its way through the rocks over millions of years. At three kilometres long, walks through the gorge reveal distinct geographical layers, laid down over aeons.
  • Take a Sundowner Tour
Set out in the late afternoon for a nature drive and complete your excursion in a remote and dramatic spot on the reserve, sipping a gin and tonic while watching the sun set over the distant mountains or dunes.

Return to your lodge for a delicious dinner after a day full of natural wonders.

On arrival you are met and transferred to your seaside hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore this small, coastal resort, before savouring a seafood dinner with your fellow travellers.
