Journey Itinerary

Day 1: Brisbane – Quilpie

Depart Brisbane from Archerfield Airport by private aircraft to Moble Homestead a private property 64 kilometres from Quilpie in southwest Queensland. This stunning outback region is the gateway to the famous Channel Country, a series of ancient floodplains which come to life after the rains. Moble is a sheep and cattle property owned and operated by the Rutledge family, proud wool producers and keen environmentalists, passionate about this country and its sustainability. A shared interest in great seasonal food and good company has been the inspiration for Brian and Kylie Rutledge to open their doors and share the homestead experience with a fortunate few.

Building on their love of good food and wine, you’re invited to join an exclusive cooking class featuring regional produce in a contemporary, country style. Your cook, Lou Dowling-Manns, is an experienced caterer and food stylist who is about to write her own cookbook. A highlight of this class will be the classic country style lunch on the garden deck overlooking the tranquil billabong.

Enjoy a relaxing afternoon with time to explore Kylie’s extensive garden before joining Brian on an afternoon safari of the property concluding at Cavehill for sundowners followed by a two-course dinner with Kylie and Brian.

Day 3: Quilpie – Winton – Longreach

After breakfast, fly to Winton, birthplace of Qantas, Dinosaur Capital of Australia and home of Waltzing Matilda and Queensland's Boulder Opal. Upon arrival you will be met by your local guide, Vicki Jones, who will introduce you to the attractions of Winton.

After exploring the town, visit the world-class Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum (AAOD), perched high on a magnificent, rugged mesa with impressive views of the surrounding plains, where dinosaurs once roamed. Discover the largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils in the world and see dinosaur bones found in the Winton region, some dating to the Cretaceous period. In the Collection Room, view an incredible digital animation which recreates one of these dinosaurs in dramatic fashion.

Enjoy a traditional pub lunch at the Tattersalls Hotel, a local favourite, with some free time to stroll the Opal Walk and glimpse the opal mine. You’ll hear the story of opal mining at Opalton and see fascinating displays of opal mining life. Be sure to visit the Waltzing Matilda Centre, dedicated to the song written by Banjo Paterson in 1895 when he was staying at Dagworth Station near Winton and walk across the road to the North Gregory Hotel where ‘Waltzing Matilda’ had its first public performance.

Re-join your aircraft and fly just 20 minutes southeast to Longreach, the largest town in central Queensland, where you are met by Dan Walker, a fifth-generation farmer and local character who will accompany you during your stay in town. Enjoy outback sundowners at the Qantas Founders Museum before experiencing the ‘Luminescent Longreach’ sound and light show. Be amazed as you stand surrounded by historic aircraft which provide the backdrop for this amazing show. Featuring high-tech 3D animation and imagery, you’ll be swept away by this fascinating narrative of Australia’s aviation history.
