A&K in the Know: Pushkar Fair

March 2017

The princely state of Rajasthan is a riot of colour. From the vividly painted blue houses of Jodphur and the earthy hues of the desert regions, the pink sandstone of Jaipur and the glistening white marble of Agra, dazzling golden threaded saris and glowing red turbans, you’ll be surrounded by colour wherever you turn. One of the many highlights when visiting Rajasthan is the Pushkar Camel Fair.

Spend a day amidst the riot of colour and activity that is the Pushkar Fair. The lively Pushkar Fair is an annual five-day camel and livestock fair held in the town of Pushkar, where every year livestock traders gather into this well-known Hindu pilgrimage town for the annual camel and cattle sale. Some 50,000 camels change hands during the fair and the town population swells to around 200,000 in an extraordinary display of sports, musical performances, fortune telling, puppeteers, dancing and novelty events.

When does the Pushkar Fair commence?
The Pushkar Fair commences towards the end of October.
