For those fond of traveling off the beaten path, Luxury travel company Abercrombie & Kent has released a fascinating, new, hosted journey to a surprising and undiscovered part of Africa.

The new 16-day West Africa: Kingdoms, Slaves & Voodoo
- An A&K Hosted Journey is a cultural odyssey that will take guests to some of the most remote regions of Ghana, Togo and Benin, to discover lost tribal worlds guided by ancient spirits.

The tour begins on the coast, in the heart of voodoo country, with a visit to a voodoo practitioner in Togo, plus a chance to observe trance-dances at a traditional voodoo ceremony. Guests will then head inland to the great Ashanti kingdom in Kumasi where they will attend an Akwasidae Festival.

The journey ends with an exploration of the former Slave Coast, with its haunting European forts and slave trade legacy and a visit to Emina’s infamous ‘Slave Castle”. Other highlights include attendance at a traditional Ashanti Funeral, meeting a traditional witch doctor, a private boat excursion to the famous stilt fishing village in Ganvie, visits to authentic remote villages and a tour of the UNESCO Heritage Listed Abomey Palaces.
