December 2017

If you want to top the most amazing day of your life then it has to be on a mind-blowing honeymoon. After the massive build up and high spirits of the big day you’ll want to wind down in an exotic destination, being waited on hand and foot. Or, you might prefer an action-packed adventure in the wild. Or, the chance to engage with local experts amongst some of the world’s oldest ruins. It’s your choice.

While serenading and star gazing may not be for every newlywed, and transportation is unlikely to be in a pea green boat, there are many experiences that are guaranteed to get married life off to a good start and here are some we think are truly memorable. What’s your forever moment?

Out of Africa
In the spirit of the heartbreakingly romantic ‘Out of Africa’, a safari is hard to beat for passionate adventure. Pick of the bunch for dreamy-eyed romantics is Kenya where vast landscapes, magical safari camps and huge herds of game set hearts aflutter. This is Africa’s famed big game country and it’s where, at the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve, you find Mara Plains, an elegant safari camp which recalls the pioneering safaris of centuries past. Get your honeymoon off to an indulgent start soaking in a copper bath tub then pick up your Swarovski binoculars, for complimentary use during your stay, and gaze over the plains in search of extraordinary wildlife. After a chandelierlit dinner under canvas, retire to your spacious tent and let the sounds of the African night lull you to sleep.

Outback meets reef
A little closer to home, Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef is a luxury beach-side safari camp on a remote stretch of Western Australia’s Indian Ocean coast. Start married life on a memorable adventure where the outback meets the reef. Snorkel and swim with whale sharks or humpback whales, manta rays and dolphins and explore the surrounding landscapes in search of unique flora and fauna. Retire to the Honeymoon Tent where private views of the beach and reef and a double hammock are yours to enjoy. Dining will dazzle with seasonal, local produce and bush flavours a focus, and excellent Western Australian wines to match. Cin Cin

For adventure travellers, South America surpasses expectations, and to experience some of the world’s best outdoor activities head to Chile and Bolivia. The landscapes are jawdropping, from the extraordinary deserts and high altiplano lakes of the Atacama, in northern Chile, to the glistening Bolivian salt flats of Uyuni. The adventure offering is extensive too with mountain biking and hiking on the menu, horse riding and spa treatments, or time out wallowing in warm thermal springs. For the ultimate in romantic seclusion, we recommend an Airstream camper on the Uyuni salt flats with your own chef and guide.

You’ll be following in the footsteps of the ancients and the 19th century Grand Tourists when you honeymoon in Egypt. One of the most timeless and astonishing destinations, you’ll be blown away by the welcome you’ll receive. We think it’s best to kick things off in the marvellous capital, Cairo, where Four Seasons at the First Residence provides the perfect base for your exploration of the Pyramids and Sphinx, the Egyptian Museum and the colourful souks. Head south to Luxor where the luxurious Sanctuary Sun Boat IV awaits for a dreamy Nile cruise guaranteed to excite.

Adventurous honeymooners will relish the opportunity to explore northern Europe’s most talked about destination, and in any season. In the summer months, newlyweds can make the most of the Midnight Sun, while winter brings mulled wine and the extraordinary Northern Lights. Raw landscapes are what Iceland does best with dramatic fjords, thermal fields, mountains, volcanoes, geysers and waterfalls at every turn. The charming capital Reykjavik is easy to explore on foot and boasts an incredible paddock to plate food scene, while active travellers will be spoilt for choice with everything from ice walks and glacier hikes to riding Icelandic horses, quad biking, snowmobiling and whale watching.

These are just some of the reasons to honeymoon in Mexico. There are also, of course, incredible monuments, ancient ruins, colonial towns and villages aplenty plus a vibrant handicraft tradition and glorious beaches. Slow boat in Kerala
Life moves at a slower pace in southern India, so take it down a notch on a honeymoon in Kerala. In contrast to Rajasthan, and the north, where the cities are chaotic and the landscapes are dusty and parched, you’ll be instantly soothed by the lush, greenery of the south and the gentle tempo of Kochi, gateway to the dreamy backwaters, where a converted rice barge is your honeymoon home away from home. Your own private chef is on hand to dish up authentic Kerala cuisine and the crew are at your complete disposal.

Arabian Nights
A perfectly-crafted honeymoon in Zanzibar combines the exotic attractions of Stone Town with an unforgettable beach stay. The ‘Spice Island’ has played host to traders, explorers and missionaries over centuries and its fascinating history illustrates that. Explore the alleyways of the beautifully restored walled town, learn of the island's spice trade and slave legacy and bed down in total luxury at the beachfront Park Hyatt Zanzibar where the trade winds gently blow and the waters of the Indian Ocean sparkle. Top it off at the lavish Baraza Resort & Spa where the white sandy beach and turquoise water beckons.
