With the arrival of our 2020 Africa and Arabia brochure, we took some time to chat to Pat Clementson, A&K Australia’s Product Manager for both regions, who shared with us his personal highlights among the incredible journeys on offer. From the ancient treasures of Cairo to the natural wonders of Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater, each itinerary is full to bursting with experiences sure to surprise and delight.

Pat Clementon’s personal favourites:

South Africa & Mozambique: Bush to Beach

This new journey focuses on two of Southern Africa’s best experiences – spectacular wildlife viewing and an incredible island escape. You will enjoy six nights spent between the Timbavati and Sabi Sand private game reserves where you can experience some of the best wildlife sightings of Africa’s iconic species in two luxurious lodges.  RockFig Safari Lodge is the Timbavati’s newest luxury accommodation, boasting just six lavishly appointed suites.  Within the Sabi Sand Reserve, stay at Londolozi Founders Camp which honours Londolozi’s legacy of animal conservation and care while still celebrating the present. Your journey culminates in four nights spent on Benguerra Island at the luxurious Azura Benguerra, known for its pristine white beaches, remarkable diving sites and incredible fishing.

Best of Zambia

Zambia is one of Africa’s best kept secrets and our Best of Zambia itinerary now includes four nights at Kaingo Camp which is in one of the best locations within the South Luangwa National Park for spotting the elusive leopard.

This camp gives you fantastic opportunities to get up close to wildlife with their network of photography hides, and boasts a star bed allowing you to sleep atop a viewing platform overlooking the picturesque Luangwa River.

The itinerary also spends time in the Lower Zambezi National Park at Sausage Tree Camp, where you can explore the magnificent Zambezi River by boat and canoe.

Wildlife of Kenya & Uganda

Another new itinerary which takes advantage of the new direct flight from the Masai Mara to Uganda.  The itinerary begins with three nights at Loisaba Tented Camp within a private conservancy in Laikipia.Kenya offering a variety of activities including game drives, mountain biking and horse riding.  You can also choose to enjoy a night in a star bed, overlooking a waterhole frequented by wildlife, offering incredible photo opportunities.  In the Masai Mara you will stay at Cottar’s 1920’s vintage safari camp in a very quiet corner of this incredible park. The Cottar Family has a long history of safari and these traditions are still upheld today with some of the best guiding in East Africa.  Your journey continues to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for three nights at Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp where you have multiple opportunities to trek and visit the magnificent mountain gorillas, observing these incredible animals at play in their natural habitat.

A Portrait of Egypt

This 13-night itinerary provides an opportunity to really appreciate Egypt and delve deeper into this amazing destination and its incredible history.  Beginning in Cairo with visits to the Egyptian Museum and Pyramids, you will also have the opportunity to explore the Coptic side of this fascinating city.  After a relaxing night in Luxor at the beautiful Sofitel Winter Palace, you embark on a four night cruise along the Nile River on the recently refurbished Sanctuary Sun Boat IV. Following the cruise, you will enjoy two nights in Aswan at the iconic Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Hotel, relaxing in resplendent luxury.  Returning to Cairo, you adventure onward to Alexandria and explore many of the region’s historic Roman sites and learn the history of Australian diggers at El Alamein,

Kasbahs & Caravans

This is the return of one of our favourite itineraries within Morocco, offering three nights to explore both Fes and Marrakech as well as a night in our exclusive A&K Desert Tented Camp in a remote part of the Sahara Desert. Two nights are spent relaxing at the magnificent Dar Ahlam Hotel, a converted 19th century Kasbah and you also explore Ait Benhaddou, a traditional village whose striking medieval structures you may recognise as iconic settings from feature films and TV series such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
