In the extraordinary landscape of the Altai Mountains in Mongolia live the last of the tribes who hunt with golden eagles. A strong, formidable people, once a year the Kazakh demonstrate their skills with their prized golden eagles in fierce competition as the Golden Eagle Festival plays out in the far west of the country.

Indian born, Australian raised, and now living in Hong Kong, Palani Mohan is an award-winning freelance photographer and published author. The host of our Golden Eagle Festival Limited Edition Small Group Journey, Palani is very familiar with the role of eagles in the traditional Kazakh culture, having spent a number of years researching and photographing in Mongolia for his book ‘Hunting with Eagles: In the Realm of Mongolian Kazakhs’. During this research, Palani also gained insights into the unique heritage of the Mongolian Kazakh people, and the harsh landscapes and living conditions of the Mongolian plains.
