Stroll through the main square, admire the Municipal Market, a superb Art Nouveau structure modelled by Gustave Eiffel after Les Halles in Paris and built in 1906 of imported cast iron. Admire the clock tower, affectionately known as “little Big Ben”, and visit the Teatro Amazonas built almost entirely of European material during the rubber boom of the 19th century. Later set off on your private overland journey to your eco-lodge and your base for a foray into the world's largest tropical rainforest. You can choose to travel by private seaplane (additional charge) and soak up en route the views of some 400 islands among the labyrinthine twists and turns of the Rio Negro.
