Journey Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Prague, Czech Republic.

A warm welcome to the Czech Republic capital and transfer to your hotel by the banks of the Vltava River, overlooking the historic Prague Castle.

Day 2: Prague.

Explore the architectural gems of Prague's Old Town and Jewish Quarter as you wander along its charming cobbled streets with your expert guide. Glimpse the iconic astronomical clock, surrounded by striking Romanesque, Baroque and Gothic-style buildings. Afterwards, discover the city's rich Jewish heritage while visiting the largest collection of Judaica in Europe, including the Old Jewish Cemetery, the Old New Synagogue and a number of others, each with its own unique collection. Finally, cross the elegant 14th-century Charles Bridge and drink in the panoramic views, admiring the famous Baroque statues up close.

Day 3: Prague.

Delve into the history surrounding Hradcany, Prague's historic castle district. Begin by visiting the imposing Prague Castle itself; a UNESCO World Heritage site dating from the ninth century and the largest coherent castle in the world. Perched atop the rolling hills, it was originally the seat of Bohemian kings and Holy Roman emperors, today the official residence of the President of the Czech Republic. Continue exploring with a visit to the Cathedral of St Vitus, one of the finest and most richly endowed in central Europe and the Basilica of St George, founded in the 10th century. Take a stroll along Golden Lane, hosting a row of tiny colourful cottages dating from the 16th century and complete your tour with a visit to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Loreto and the Strahov Monastery, admiring the glorious Baroque decorations, and a private tour of its ornate library.

Day 4: Prague – Dresden, Germany.

Travel by private transfer to the train station for your journey to Dresden.  Arrive in Dresden to a warm A&K welcome and transfer to your hotel, the timelessly elegant Kempinski Taschenbergpalais. With a day at leisure, you may choose to explore the soaring spires, towers, domes, churches and stately buildings of Dresden’s grand Old Town.

Day 5: Dresden

Lying on the banks of the River Elbe, Dresden boasts striking architectural gems and enchanting cobbled streets. Enjoy an expert guided tour to take in the city’s most iconic buildings, including the impressive Zwinger Complex, considered one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture. Here you may opt to see the Porcelain Collection or Old Masters Picture Gallery. Continue to the stunningly ornate Frauenkirche, the Church of Our Lady and Dresden Castle, a former royal palace home to the New Green Vault, where you can wander in awe of its collection of glittering Baroque treasures.  If you so choose, you may also enjoy a beguiling performance at the Semper Opera (additional cost).

Day 6: Dresden – Leipzig

Journey to the vibrant city of Leipzig, renowned as the birthplace of classical composer Richard Wagner. En route to your hotel, admire Leipzig’s monument to the Battle of the Nations, located close to Napoleon’s former command post during the historic event. Absorb spectacular panoramic views of Leipzig from the observation platform of the monument before continuing to your hotel, the luxurious Steigenberger Grandhotel Handelshof.

Day 7: Leipzig

Discover the history behind this spirited city during your half-day expert guided tour. Explore the legacy left by Johann Sebastian Bach, who spent the last 27 years of his life as the organist and choir director at St Thomas’ Church. Visit the Bach Museum, once the family home of the composer and now a gallery dedicated to his life and work. Continue with a walking tour exploring Leipzig’s constructed treasures, including the striking Renaissance town hall, and the historic St. Nicholas Church.

With an afternoon at leisure, lose yourself in the enthralling ambience of the city. Explore the magnificent monuments and charming cobbled streets at your own pace, admiring impressive architecture, magnificent museums and the spectacular sprawling market square.

Day 8: Leipzig – Potsdam – Berlin

Today, journey to Berlin via Potsdam, the residence of the Prussian kings and the German Kaiser. Visit the early 20th century Cecilienhof Palace, famous as the signing place of the Potsdam Agreement between Truman, Stalin and Churchill. Afterwards, continue to the Sanssouci Gardens, the grounds of the royal residence of Frederick the Great. The gardens host a Chinese teahouse with a small but elaborate porcelain collection, a Dutch mill, a Greek temple and even Roman ruins. Resting on a hilltop of vineyards, inside the palace showcases a fine display of the ornate original furnishings. Continue to your hotel in Berlin, the fabulous 5-star Rocco Forte Hotel de Rome.

Day 9: Berlin

Begin your tour of Berlin with a visit to the bustling square of Potsdamer Platz, once bleak and bisected by the Berlin Wall, now resplendent in its redesign. Continue to nearby ‘Checkpoint Charlie’, the famous crossing between East and West Berlin during the years of partition. See the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, whose ruin stands as a dramatic reminder of World War II. Finish your half-day tour with a visit to the Reichstag, the rebuilt home of the German parliament with a stunning Norman Foster-designed dome. Enjoy a memorable lunch at Käfer Rooftop restaurant, atop the Reichstag dome.

Day 10: Berlin

Nestled in the River Spree, ‘Museum Island’ is so-called as it is home to a fine collection of museums. Begin your guided excursion with a tour of the Pergamon, housing a vast collection of ancient artefacts and antiquities. Afterwards, you can investigate in the Neues Museum, which contains awe-inspiring Egyptian antiquities and a famous bust of Queen Nefertiti. Museum Island also hosts impressive architectural marvels; including the beautiful Berlin Cathedral with its vast dome and extravagant Neo-Baroque interior.
