Journey Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Arusha

Welcome to Tanzania where you are met on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport for your private transfer to your lodge located on the country’s largest coffee plantation.

Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

This morning you are driven (approx.2hrs) to Tarangire National Park, home to one of the country’s largest elephant populations. On arrival at the park entrance gate, you will commence a full day game drive with a picnic lunch before arriving at Sanctuary Swala late in the afternoon. Your camp is situated in a remote corner of the park amongst giant acacia trees with views out beyond the savannah. The landscape is filled with ancient baobab trees, ambling elephants, and birds in flight.

Day 3: Tarangire National Park

A full day on safari allows time for plenty of game viewing. This afternoon there is an opportunity for you to design your day and choose from the following activities: Experience the beauty of Tarangire from a unique perspective on a canoe safari on Lake Gursi, head out on a walking safari, or a night game drive in search of elusive nocturnal animals rarely seen by visitors.

Day 4: Tarangire National Park – Ngorongoro Highlands

Depart Tarangire for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Explore a vibrant local market and community on a tuk-tuk ride followed by lunch at Gibb’s Farm, a working coffee plantation in the highlands. Time to stretch your legs before the drive to your charming Cape Dutch style lodge.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater

Descend into this vast extinct volcano whose towering walls are a natural enclosure for a dazzling abundance of wildlife. See wildebeest, zebra, buffalo and gazelle on the plains, waterbuck, bushbuck and eland in the forest, a healthy elephant population, black rhino, lion, leopard, hippo and flamingo. On return to your lodge stop at a traditional Maasai village.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti National Park

This morning is a short flight to the world-famous Serengeti National Park. Depending on your month of travel, and the location of ‘The Migration’, A&K will recommend which camp is best suited for your stay.

Days 7–8: Serengeti National Park

Enjoy two days exploring the never-ending savannah, where more animals roam than in any other place on earth. The Serengeti plays host to a wonderful spectacle each year – the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra that follow the rains in a search for new pastures and water. This is an unforgettable experience for even the most seasoned African traveller.

Day 9: Serengeti National Park – Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

Fly to Tarime where you will cross the Kenyan border to Migori and continue on by air to the vast Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya’s finest wildlife spectacle, offering excellent game viewing year-round. The unending landscape hosts some 450 bird species, 95 animal species and all of the great predators, including the country’s largest lion population.

Transfer to the luxurious Sanctuary Olonana Camp, an exclusive hideaway set on a private stretch of the Mara River.

Days 10-11: Masai Mara National Reserve

Venture forth for two full days of exploring the open savanna, woodlands and tree-fringed rivers of the Masai Mara, where patience is rewarded with unique sightings such as a leopard retrieving a kill from the upper branches of an acacia, or elephants protecting their young from opportunistic lions. Amid the stunning scenery, watch as Maasai tribesmen traverse the plains or herd goats and cattle. You will also be able to participate in the AKP Tree Planting Project, visit the neighbouring Maasai village or the AKP supported safe water in school’s initiative.

Day 12: Masai Mara National Reserve – Depart Nairobi

Return by air to Wilson Airport and transfer to Nairobi Airport or your hotel.
