Journey Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Luang Prabang.

Arrive in Luang Prabang and be welcomed by the soothing luxury of your hotel. one of Laos’ purest traditions, a Baci ceremony. Performed by a master of ceremonies, or “Mo Phon”, the Baci is a ritual performed on special occasions for hundreds of years.

Day 2: Luang Prabang.

Peel back layers of history as you wander the streets of this peaceful, other-worldly city on your walking tour. Start at the National Museum, housed in the former Royal Palace, for the perfect overview of Luang Prabang’s fascinating history. Meet with a former cultural advisor to UNESCO, Francis Engelmann, who will become your expert guide to the city. Wander through the charming lanes and backstreets as your guide shares stories of the city’s heritage and architecture. Head to the far point of the peninsula to marvel at temple Wat Xieng Thong, which dates back to the 16th century. Enjoy the rest of your afternoon at leisure.

Day 3: Luang Prabang.

Venture through the lush green countryside to the majestic Kuang Si waterfall, cascading down 60 metres into azure pools. Then, spend an interactive morning at Laos Buffalo Dairy, a social enterprise supporting underprivileged farmers with a commercial dairy and production facility. Meet the dairy manager who will lead you on a tour of the farm and teach you about their methods, challenges, achievements and future plans. Get up close with the friendly buffalos, helping to wash and feed the calves. Then, sample the farm’s delicious, fresh produce with a cheese tasting platter. 

This evening, challenge locals to a game of “petang”, Laos’s answer to the French game of petanque and a remnant of the colonial past. Then, head to a popular ‘Sin Dat’ restaurant for a traditional Laos barbecue. Sizzle slivers of meat on a metal tray heated over a bucket of hot coals in the centre of your table, as vegetables, egg and noodles bubble below.

Day 4: Luang Prabang.

Delve into the fascinating world of Laos crafts. Meet the co-founder and managing director of Ma Te Sai, a social enterprise and fair-trade organisation that supports rural women through handicraft. Having lived in Luang Prabang since 2009, Australian-born Emi Weir spends much of her time in these rural communities, helping to preserve their cultural heritage. Join Emi to meet silversmiths and master paper craftsmen in their workshops and see their intricate work. Journey to Patta Textile Gallery to meet the innovative textile designer and admire her one-of-a-kind creations. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure.
